Arrestata Marian Price

Marian Price, portavoce del 32 County Sovereignty Movement, è arrestata stamattina a West Belfast. Oltre a lei, prelevato dalla PSNI anche un uomo, trentanovenne, originario di Tyrone.
Marian Price è stata arrestata alle 07.30 di stamattina. Mentre la PSNI era impegnata nella perquisizione della sua abitazione Avenue Stockman, nei pressi della M1, a bordo di una Land Rover è arrivata una squadra di agenti armati fino ai denti con indosso giubbetti antiproiettile, che ha prelevato la donna.
Marion Price e l’uomo di cui non si conoscono ancora le generalità sono ora trattenuti nella caserma di Antrim per essere sottoposti ad interrogatorio.
Marian Price è una figura di spicco del movimento repubblicano in Irlanda. Fu accusata e incarcerata per l’attentato all’Old Bailey di Londra, insieme all’attuale esponente di spicco dello Sinn Fein, Gerry Kelly, in cui trovò la morte un uomo e 200 furono i feriti.
Al tempo dell’Accordo del Venerdì Santo ha guidato il gruppo scissionista dello Sinn Fein, andando a formare poi il gruppo del 32csm, ritenuto collegato al Real IRA, gruppo paramilitare repubblicano che ha rivendicato l’attentato di Massereene.
Sono 14 le persone fino ad ora arrestate in connessione all’attentato alla base militare di Massereene. In carcere fino ad ora solo Colin Duffy e Brian Shivers. Quest’ultimo si trova agli arresti domiciliari a causa delle precarie condizioni di saluti. L’uomo è infatti affetto da fibrosi cistica.

Noel Maguire verrà trasferito!!!

Dopo una lunga campagna sembra essere stata confermata. Noel Maguire, imprigionato in Inghilterra, ha finalmente ricevuto il permesso di trasferire le prigioni e sta per essere spostato in Irlanda.

Sono stata informata che Jack Straw, ministro della Giustizia (UK), ha firmato i documenti di trasferimento il 5 ottobre 2009, il che significa che ora che è oggetto di un trasferimento a Maghaberry in qualsiasi momento.

Noel è attualmente detenuto nel carcere di Whitemoor, Cambridge, ma si pensa che che Noel sarà trasferito al carcere di Maghaberry questo mese.

Noel aveva inizialmente chiesto un trasferimento al carcere di Portloaise nella Repubblica d'Irlanda, per essere più vicino alla sua famiglia, ma tutte e cinque le sue domande sono state respinte dal ministro della Giustizia irlandese, nonostante il fatto che Noel è un cittadino irlandese in proprio e di un titolare di un passaporto irlandese. Inoltre, tutti i convenuti di Noel sono stati poi trasferiti nella Repubblica d'Irlanda, dove stanno scontando la loro pena.

Le ragioni che sono state date Noel dal governo irlandese per aver rifiutato il suo rimpatrio in Irlanda sono stati ingiustificata.

Dopo cinque tentativi falliti di applicazione per il trasferimento al carcere di Portlaoise, Noel ha deciso di applicare per il trasferimento al carcere di Maghaberry.

Noel è molto eccitato all'idea di essere trasferito e non si sa ancora se continuerà ad applicare di nuovo per il trasferimento al carcere di Portlaoise.

On behalf on the 32CSM I would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the family of John Brady who died whilst in police custody.

We echo the concerns of the family and the broad republican movement that answers surrounding the circumstances of John’s death be immediately forthcoming.

The issue of sustained harassment of republicans by British forces cannot be divorced from the search for those answers.

Equally the use of the ‘Release Under Licence’ system as a mechanism to coerce political expression and as a blunt instrument to re-intern republicans on the flimsiest of grounds needs to be fully exposed.

We offer our full support to John’s family in their quest for the truth concerning his death.

John non si è suicidato. La famiglia Brady parla con Suzanne Breen

Il repubblicano John Brady aveva litigato con il cognato mentre si trovava in permesso. E’ finito impiccandosi con i lacci in una cella della polizia paramilitare. La sua famiglia non crede si tratti di suicidio

“Mio figlio non si è ucciso. Non avrebbe dato quel piacere alla polizia, non gli avrebbe permesso di sconfiggerlo”, dice Margaret Brady. “E lui mi amava troppo per mettere fine alla sua vita. Sapeva che mi avrebbe annientato”.

Ci troviamo nel salotto di un’abitazione di Strabane. Di sopra il figlio di Margaret, John, giace in una bara. Indossa una maglietta da calcio – il suo amato Liverpool. Ma i simboli della sua altra passione sono tutti intorno. Un tricolore avvolge il suo corpo. I suoi guanti neri ed il basco sono presenti.

John Brady è stato trovato impiccato per i propri lacci nella stazione di polizia di Strand Road a Derry, lo scorso fine settimana. Aveva 40 ani. Aveva trascorso quasi metà della sua vita in carcere. I primi anni per reati repubblicani, compreso l’omicidio di un poliziotto. Gli ultimi 5 anni erano di vero internamento, dice la sua famiglia. Brady era stato incarcerato per nulla.

Un piccolo gruppo di sostenitori ha portato avanti una lunga campagna, senza sostegno della corrente politica, per farlo rilasciare. Alla fine, hanno avuto successo. Brady sarebbe stato rilasciato in maniera definitiva il prossimo mese. Aveva iniziato a ritornare a casa per il fine settimana.

Poi venerdì 2 ottobre è stato arrestato. Venne interrogato per l’aggressione e la minaccia di morte contro suo cognato avvenuta durante quella giornata, che John negò. La polizia lo trattenne per tutta la notte e si apprestava a presentare formale accusa. Così John Brady non sopportava di trascorrere ancora un lungo periodo in prigione o è successo qualcosa di più sinistro nella caserma di Strand Road, sabato scorso?

All’inizio, nessuno riteneva Brady potesse essersi suicidato. “Il suicidio sarebbe stata un’azione lontana da lui”, disse il suo amico Paddy Brown.

La casa si sta riempendo all’inverosimile di partecipanti alle esequie. Non solo dal Nord: repubblicani di Dublino, Cork, Kildare, Limerick e Monaghan sono presenti. Circa 100 persone hanno fatto la fila all’esterno in una notte fredda per entrare nella casa dove ha luogo la veglia. Le donne offrono sandwich e tè.

Ho aspettato così tanto il suo ritorno

“Venite di sopra”, qualcuno dice al Sunday Tribune. Superiamo una dozzina di uomini e donne in camicia bianca, cravatta e pantaloni nera nell’ingresso. “Aspetti qui un minuto, signore”, viene detto al nostro fotografo. Quindi siamo entrati nella stanza da letto dove giace Brady, un crocifisso sopra il feretro, un tricolore con l’arpa posizionato lì a fianco.

Quattro uomini con il passamontagna, giubbotto mimetico, pantaloni neri e stivali stanno di guardia. Due sono armati con pistole calibro .32; uno con un fucile AK-47. La stanza dice molto sulle complessità del Nord. Il duro mondo paramilitare viene attenuato dall’umanità della vita repubblicana di tutti i giorni – i paralumi e le tende del Liverpool acquistate da Brady mentre era in permesso. Tra le candele e le rose rosse, Margaret ha posizionato le cartoline che suo figlio le spediva dalla prigione. Una mostra la foto di un orso. “Mi manchi, non riesco a sopportare quando siamo lontani”, recita.

Margaret inizia a piangere: “Ho aspettato così tanto il suo ritorno a casa ma non dentro una bara. Se fosse stato ucciso mentre in servizio attivo, non mi sarei lamentata. Morire in una stazione di polizia quando non aveva fatto nulla di sbagliato è differente”.

Sono una famiglia molto repubblicana, dice la sorella di John, Lorna. “Mio padre era prigioniero IRA a Portlaoise negli anni Ottanta. Crescendo, John era come un padre per me. Quando avevo sei anni, mi portò a vedere Babbo Natale. on molti quattordicenni lo avrebbero fatto per la loro sorellina”.

Brady entrò nell’IRA a 16 anni, ricorda la madre: “Mi disse, ‘ Se mi ami, me lo lascerai fare’. E così feci. Il repubblicanesimo era dentro di te”. Brady venne condannato all’ergastolo per la morte del poliziotto della RUC David Black, avvenuta nel 1989. Suo fratello Ben e sua madre vennero accusati di nascondere informazioni.

“E’ difficile per una madre stare tra i suoi due figli in tribunale”, dice Margaret. “Ma John disse, ‘ Tieni alta la testa mamma’ e così ho fatto ed ero orgogliosa dei miei figli”. Ben ricevette una condanna a quattro anni; Margaret subì una condanna a du anni, con sentenza sospesa.

John Brady venne liberato con la licenza di rilascio anticipato ottenuta in base all’Accordo del Venerdì Santo del 1998. Entrò nello Sinn Fein ma venne subito deluso, accusando la dirigenza di “tradimento”. Entrò quindi nella Real IRA.

Nel 2003, venne arrestato insieme a due donne dalla polizia vicino al confine con il Donegal. Nell’auto venero trovate alcune pistole. Il trio fu arrestato ma in seguito il caso venne abbandonato. La Real IRA affermò che il motivo di tale azione era proteggere un informatore, il cui nome era conosciuto dalla formazione repubblicana.

Le due donne furono rilasciate, ma non Brady. “La sua licenza di rilascio anticipato fu revocata”, afferma Lorna. “Ma il caso giunse davanti alla Life Sentence Review Commission e sembrava molto favorevole. Quindi, ad un tratto, John fu accusato in base ad un indizio di DNA a basso numero di copie di aver cercato di assassinare un soldato a Tyrone nel 2002.

“Dopo che tale prova fu screditata nel processo per la bomba di Omagh, il caso contro John venne abbandonato. Ancora una volta, senza alcuna accusa loro (la polizia) non lo fecero uscire dal carcere di Maghaberry”. Non era mai depresso, riferisce la madre: “Non era difficile visitarlo. Gli altri visitatori piangevano quando lasciavano i prigionieri che erano giù di morale. A noi non succedeva mai perché John era sempre sorridente”.

Frustrato per essere tenuto in carcere senza accusa, Brady chiese al gruppo di sostegno ai prigionieri della Real IRA di toglierlo dalla lista. Poi, chiese il trasferimento dall’ala repubblicana a quella dei criminali comuni. “Ruppe tutti i legami con il movimento repubblicano”; riferisce Marian Price del 32 County Sovereignty Movement. “Non aveva altra scelta perché le autorità usavano ogni mezzo per tenerlo in prigione. E comprensibilmente voleva uscire e condurre una vita normale”.

Per le prossime cinque settimane, a Brady era stato concesso il rilascio sulla parola per i fine settimana e sarebbe stato liberato in maniera definitiva il mese prossimo. “La mia guerra è finita”, disse agli amici di Strabane. Restava un repubblicano ma credeva che la “lotta armata” non era la via da seguire. Quindi lo scorso fine settimana, si trovò invischiato in una disputa familiare.

La sorella più grande di Brady, Martina, è sposata con il vignettista politico John Kennedy, il cui lavoro viene pubblicato dal Mirror e da altre testate statunitensi. Kennedy è conosciuto per le sue politiche radicali e alcune illustrazioni sono state critiche sulla polizia paramilitare (la PSNI , Ndt).

Argomento

I Kennedy ed i Brady ruppero i rapporti due anni fa. Margaret Brady afferma che non poteva vedere suo nipote. Anche regali e cartoline venivano respinti al mittente.

Intorno alle 15 di venerdì 2 ottobre, John Brady era andato a prendere i figli di un amico dalla scuola di Barrack Street a Strabane.

Un litigio scoppiò con John Kennedy, anche lui a scuola per prendere il figlio. Subito dopo il fatto, Brady ha immediatamente informato il responsabile del progetto di pre-rilascio a proposito dell’incidente e si offrì di ritornare in carcere, afferma la famiglia.

Gli venne detto di contattare la polizia fornendo dettagli del suo alterco. La famiglia di Brady rivela che telefonò alla polizia e gli venne chiesto se voleva sporgere denuncia contro John Kennedy. Lui rispose di no, ma chiese di registrare l’incidente.

Intorno alle 20:30 la polizia arrestò Brady. John Kennedy aveva presentato una denuncia. “Mio fratello mi ha chiamato due volte dalla caserma”, prosegue Lorna. “Era su di morale. Sono andata a Strand Road sabato pomeriggio con un cambio di vestiti da dargli. Sono rimasta lì per due ore ma non mi hanno permesso di vederlo”.

L’avvocato di Brady, John Finucane, arrivò a Strand Road alle 21:30. Trovò il suo cliente, come sempre, calmo e rilassato. Indossava una maglietta del Liverpool. Da tifoso del Manchester United, Finucane scherzò con lui, dicendo che se avesse saputo di chi era tifoso, non si sarebbe presentato.

Finucane riteneva la polizia non avesse le prove per accusare Brady, che negava di aver aggredito o aver minacciato di morte Kennedy. Brady riferì di avere tre testimoni che sostenevano la sua versione del litigio. Fornì alla polizia i loro dettagli. Nonostante fosse stato tenuto in custodia per quasi 20 ore, fu interrogato per solo 42 minuti.

Alle 16, Finucane fu informato che il suo cliente stava per essere accusato formalmente. Non c’era panico nell’atteggiamento di Brady. Come avvocato aveva imparato a leggere, attraverso i cambiamenti nel comportamento o nell’espressione, se qualcuno era particolarmente vulnerabile. Alle 16:35 Finucane lasciò Brady nella stanza per i consulti legali e andò a parlare con la polizia.

Si trattenne 15 minuti, 20 al massimo. Quando ritornò indietro, trovò Brady penzolare dalla finestra, impiccato con i lacci delle scarpe da ginnastica. Chiamò subito la polizia. I paramedici provarono a rianimare Brady, ma era troppo tardi.

Finucane ha importanti domande sul motivo per cui Brady fu arrestato, in primo luogo. Se qualcuno avesse sporto denuncia contro qualcuno, gli avrebbero semplicemente chiesto di presentarsi presso una stazione di polizia in una data concordata, non arrestato in quella maniera. Pensa anche che Brady era stato accusato formalmente prima che il processo investigativo fosse adeguatamente concluso. Il giovane avvocato, il cui padre Pat fu assassinato nel 1989, comunicò la notizia ai Brady. “John FInucane telefonò e disse che aveva bisogno di vedermi”, ricorda Lorna. “L’ho incontrato nel parcheggio del supermercato Asda e mi disse che mio fratello era morto”.

Avendo saputo della morte di suo figlio, Margaret Brady tolse tutte le fotografie di sua figlia Martina – la moglie di John Kennedy – da casa. Però le foto dei tre nipoti restano in mostra.

“Pregherò per mia figlia ogni giorno della mia vita, ma non le parlerò più”, dice Margaret. “Nel mondo repubblicano, si coinvolge la polizia solo per lo stupro o gli abusi sui bambini. Certamente non si denuncia un prigionieri in licenza. Suo padre si rotolerebbe nella tomba”.

Margaret chiese ad un intermediario di riferire ai Kennedy, che vivono a soli 100 metri da casa sua, che sarebbe meglio se lasciassero Strabane. “Non era per vendetta. Gli animi si stavano surriscaldando. Ero preoccupata per ciò che possono farei residenti della zona. Ho tre nipoti che amo in quella casa e li voglio al sicuro”.

Lasciare il Nord

I Kennedy hanno lasciato il Nord. Il Sunday Tribune ha contattato John Kennedy via email per avere un commento, ma non ha ricevuto risposta. Ma le domande più scottanti riguardano il trattamento di John Brady mentre si trovava a Strand Row.

La famiglia vuole sapere perché John indossava ancora le scarpe da ginnastica e perché la polizia non lo riportò subito in cella quando Finucane lasciò la stanza dei colloqui.

Il repubblicano Gary Donnelly è stato interrogato molte volte a Strand Road: “Ogni volta che vieni portato là dentro, devi toglierti le scarpe, la cintura e la gioielleria. Mi chiesero perfino di togliere il cordoncino dai pantaloni della tuta da ginnastica.

“E’ una procedura standard così un prigioniero non può fare del male a sé stesso o ad un agente. Perché non è successo lo stesso con John? Ed è bizzarro che sia stato lasciato da solo nella stanza dei colloqui legali, uno degli unici luoghi della caserma senza una telecamera (di sorveglianza). Ogni volta che il mio avvocato lasciava la stanza, i poliziotti mi riportavano subito in cella”.

La polizia paramilitare è più dura a Derry, per la forte presenza repubblicana, rispetto ad altre parti del Nord, riferisce Donnelly. Più volte la polizia lo picchiò mentre era in custodia.

L’ex prigioniero dell’INLA Willie Gallagher conosceva bene Brady. “Vidi John la scorsa settimana ed era più ottimista che mai. Sperava di trasferirsi in Donegal quando sarebbe stato rilasciato in maniera permanente perché diceva che la polizia paramilitare non gli avrebbe mai lasciato in pace nel Nord. Aveva in programma lezioni di informatica. Non credo si sia ucciso. Ma, anche se così fosse, la polizia paramilitare gli ha fatto passare il segno e, come organizzazione, sono responsabili per la sua morte”.

I Brady non hanno alcuna fiducia nelle indagini del Police Ombudsman sulla questione. Mentre la guerra di John Brady era terminata, ironicamente la sua morte ha innalzato il sentimento repubblicano.

Nelle finestre principali delle case repubblicane di Strabane, i manifesti “Free John Brady”, stampati anni fa, restano al loro posto. Ora sono affiancati dalle bandiere nere a lutto. E sui muri, ci sono graffiti freschi: “John Brady è libero. Riposa in pace, Amico”.

Rinvenuto in una cella di una stazione di polizia di Derry il corpo privo di vita di John Brady

John Brady, 40 anni e noto repubblicano, è stato rinvenuto morto nella stazione di polizia di Strand Road di Derry, dove era stato portato a seguito dell’arresto avvenuto lo scorso venerdì. Pare sia stato sottoposto ad interrogatorio in relazione ad un assalimento. Il condizionale è d’obbligo soprattutto se si cerca di far luce sulle cause del decesso.
Fonti della polizia e lo stesso Police Ombudsman Al Hutchinson citano tra le ipotesi più fondate, quella del suicidio.
Intanto è stata fissata per lunedì 5 ottobre l’autopsia.
“Il nostro ufficio ha bisogno di condurre un’indagine equa, indipendente e imparziale sulla sua morte.”
“E’ importante in questo momento di dolore che la famiglia del Sig Brady ha il nostro supporto e sicuramente la nostra assicurazione che verrà condotta un’indagine equa e imparziale sulle cause della morte”, ha dichiarato Hutchinson.
John Brady venne accusato nel 2002 di aver piazzato una bomba sotto l’auto di un ex soldato del RIR. La causa sfumò a favore di Brady perchè basata su insufficienti tracce di DNA.
Venne arrestato nel 1989 per l’uccisone di un poliziotto. Nel 1991, si dichiarò colpevole di aver ucciso il Reserve Constable del RUC David Black. Fu inizialmente rilasciato con licenza nel 1998, dopo l’accordo del Venerdì Santo, licenza successivamente revocata e Brady fu costretto a ritornare in carcere nel novembre 2003.
Doherty, Sinn Fein, ha definito la morte di John Brady come “una tragica perdita”.
“Ci sono ovviamente problemi di grave preoccupazione su come John Brady sia morto durante le ore diurne, quando si trovava in custodia della polizia”, ha detto.
“Mentre tutti i dettagli che circondano questa morte non sono chiare, è essenziale che ci sia un’indagine completa e aperta da parte del Police Ombudsman”.
Il mistero sulla morte di John Brady si va ad aggiungere alla notizia dei giorni scorsi della sospensione dal servizio di alcuni membri del personale carcerario di Maghaberry, indagati per la morte di John Anthony Deery, 50 anni, trovato nella sua certa e spirato al Royal Victoria Hospital di Belfast. Su questo caso è stata aperta un’inchiesta dal Police Ombudsman Pauline McCabe.

Per dovere di cronaca, anche se in assenza di notizie certe e confermate, riteniamo opportuno rilevare le dichiarazioni della famiglia di John Brady, totalmente contraria all’ipotesi di morte per suicidio. Si parla di un alterco avvenuto nel pomeriggio di venerdì tra John e il cognato. Brady è stato poi arrestato con l’accusa di minaccia. L’avvocato difensonre gli ha parlato per l’ultima volta alle 15 circa di sabato ed ha riferito alla famiglia di averlo trovato in gran forma e in attesa di essere liberato dal carcere dopo la conferma della sua versione dei fatti da parte di testimoni. Alle 16 l’avvocato ha richiamato i familiari informandoli della morte del loro caro. E’ dato a sapeere che il corpo sia stato rinvenuto in una ’stanza’ senza specificare se si trattasse della sala interrogatori o della sala di consultazione giuridica.

Il Real IRA ha rivendicato 2 attacchi bomba e le azioni punitive delle ultime ore

Poliziotti nell’occhio del mirino del Real IRA a Derry.
Due ordigni sono stati infatti collocati nei pressi delle abitazioni di parenti di un ufficiale del PSNI.
Uno è esploso questa mattina, e si tratta di quello che era stato collocato all’esterno della casa dei suoi genitori, nell’area di Shantallow.
Non ci sono feriti, ma un’auto è rimasta danneggiata.
Un secondo dispositivo è stato rinvenuto nei pressi della casa del medesimo poliziotto, situata in Kylemore Park.
Molte persone sono state costrette ad evacuare le loro abitazioni dopo il ritrovamento del secondo ordigno, alle 7.30 di questa mattina.
Verso l’1.30 di stanotte, un uomo è stato colpito alle gambe e alla mano sinistra nella zona di Ballymagroarty a Derry, da un gruppo di uomini che ha fatto irruzione nella sua abitazione. Le sue condizioni sono stabili.
Il Real IRA ha rivendicato tutta questa serie di attacchi, considerati dalla polizia come un tentativo da parte dei dissidenti repubblicani di ottenere il controllo delle aree nazionaliste.
Unanime la condanna degli esponenti politici, che definiscono codardo l’attacco perchè ordito nei confronti di chi sta lavorando per progredire verso la pace. Ribadito il messaggio che il cammino dell’Irlanda del Nord non si fermerà e che i dissidenti non potranno contare sul sostegno della comunità.

REPUBBLICANO ASSOLTO DALL’ACCUSA DI AGGRESSIONE A UFFICIALI DEL PSNI

Gary Donnelly assolto dall’accusa di aver assalito tre agenti di polizia presso la Londonderry Magistrates Court.

Il Giudice Mervyn Bates ha ritenuto non dimostrabile oltre ogni ragionevole dubbio la colpevolezza del repubblicano Gary Donnelly.
La difesa aveva valutato in 16 o 17 le incoerenze nelle prove presentate dal PSNI.
Donnelly era stato accusato di aver preso a spallate un ufficiale costretto contro la ringhiera e di aver preso a calci 2 agenti mentre lo scortavano davanti alla corte in manette, per una protesta avvenuta a Raytheon nell’agosto del 2006.
Di vitale importanza, come ha ammesso il giudice, è stata la testimonianza del giornalista irlandese Seamus McKinney. Egli ha dichiarato che Gary Donnelly era stato buttato a terra da due agenti, mentre stava cercando di salutare la folla.
Donnelly uscendo dal tribunale, ha affermato che questa è la quarta volta in cui viene assolto dall’accusa di aggressione ad ufficiali di polizia.

Questione nordirlandese: dal super carcere parla un prigioniero repubblicano

Detenuti politici? Sembra assurdo, ma nell’Unione europea del Terzo millennio c’è ancora chi viene arrestato per reati di opinione e di sospetta affiliazione.

Accade nell‘Irlanda del Nord, quella della pace negata, quella di Belfast e dei suoi muri, quella dove ha sede l’Mi5, quella che assorbe gran parte delle risorse dell’intelligence britannica.
La questione nordirlandese scotta.

Siamo entrati nel carcere di massima sicurezza di Maghaberry, pochi chilometri a nord di Belfast. Abbiamo parlato con una delle “colonne” della storia della resistenza repubblicana irlandese, Terry McCafferty. Condannato a 12 anni per aver piazzato una bomba e per essere stato membro della Real Ira, l’ala radicale del movimento repubblicano, era stato scarcerato dopo sei anni.

Libero, parte per la luna di miele con la moglie e, appena tornato, a pochi giorni da Natale, viene arrestato nuovamente all’aeroporto internazionale di Belfast. Ma senza motivo.

O meglio, per lui si riaprono le porte del penitenziario di Maghaberry “a causa dei suoi principi”.

Com’è avvenuto il suo arresto?
Era il primo natale che avrei potuto passare con i miei figli e invece mi hanno riportato in carcere solo per un sospetto di affiliazione. Adesso sono passati sette mesi e ancora non ho visto neanche un giudice.

Per quale reato l’hanno arrestata?
Finiamo in carcere senza un’imputazione. Per le leggi speciali ci possono tenere qui dentro senza prove solo per 28 giorni. Ma poi per un meccanismo assurdo ci continuano a tenere in prigione per il reato di associazione all’Ira. L’unica prova a mio carico è l’associazione
con gli altri detenuti con cui ho condiviso la cella negli ultimi anni e che sono andato a trovare una volta fuori. Tutto qui. Molto
probabilmente anche voi finirete nella black list. E’ peggio di vent’anni fa: almeno all’epoca si veniva giudicati da una corte inglese, oggi neanche questo.

Avete fatto ricorso alla Corte Europea dei diritti dell’uomo?
Certo, ma il verdetto potrebbe arrivare anche tra 5 anni. E intanto io, insieme ad altri come me, rimango in carcere.

Com’è la situazione in carcere? Quanti prigionieri politici ci sono?
Qui sono stati rinchiusi una trentina di repubblicani che solo negli ultimi due anni hanno riacquistato, dopo la “dirty protest” e decine
di altre manifestazioni, lo status di prigioniero politico. Possiamo quindi stare tutti insieme in un braccio del penitenziario, vestire abiti civili, occuparci della nostra educazione. Quello per cui Bobby Sands e gli altri scioperanti della fame sono morti nel 1981. Uno status che era stato cancellato dagli accordi del Venerdì santo (leggi l’intervista a Giulio Giorello) firmato dallo Sinn Fein di Adams e McGuinnes che oggi, non solo si è dimenticato dei suoi ex compagni di lotta, ma ha anche iniziato a chiamarli “traditori” e a prenderne le distanze. Addirittura i prigionieri politici sono stati disconosciuti dallo Sinn Fein che ha cercato di farli trattare come criminali comuni”.

Come siete divisi all’interno del carcere?
Dopo aver vinto la nostra battaglia, siamo divisi in due piani, ma almeno siamo tutti insieme, come prigionieri politici repubblicani e non insieme ai criminali comuni. Qui non c’è droga e siamo organizzati per tenere le nostre menti e i nostri corpi sempre attivi. Ci occupiamo dell’educazione alla cultura e alla lingua dei nostri padri.
E anche alla preparazione politica dei nostri militanti.

L’associazione dei prigionieri irlandesi (Irpwa – Irish repubblican prisoner of war association) ha denunciato ripetute violenze nel carcere ai vostri danni. Che cosa ci può raccontare?
Almeno una volta a settimana i secondini ci aggrediscono e ci picchiano con calci, pugni e manganelli. Lo fanno senza motivo, agli
orari più strani solo perché cercano di piegarci mentalmente e fisicamente. Ma non ce la faranno.
Di solito si accaniscono su di noi quando c’è qualche anniversario particolare o quando accade qualcosa fuori dal carcere. Le storie sono sempre le stesse. Pestaggi durante la notte, messi in pratica da secondini ubriachi e che fanno vedere tatuaggi con simboli lealisti. Storie che ovviamente rimangono nel silenzio.

Alta tensione a Belfast: che cosa accadrà ora?

Il fuoco cova sotto la cenere a Belfast e nelle 6 contee del nord. Il processo di pace dopo il Good Friday Agreement non dà i frutti sperati.

La parata orangista del 12 luglio spostata a lunedì 13 ufficialmente per motivi religiosi, ufficiosamente anche per motivi di sicurezza, è stato l’ennesimo ma non il solo detonatore. Gli allarmi bomba delle scorse settimane, e i violenti scontri tra polizia e cattolici il 13 luglio e le notti seguenti nel quartiere di Ardoyne hanno spento gli entusiasmi di chi pensava la questione nordirlandese fosse oramai in via di risoluzione.

I problemi nelle sei contee rimangono irrisolti. I repubblicani più intransigenti condannano la real politik dello Sinn Feinn e lo considerano un partito oramai colluso che non fa nulla per migliorare le condizioni della popolazione cattolica: accesso al lavoro alle scuole, ai finanziamenti sono tuttora spesso vincolati all’appartenenza all’una o all’altra comunità.

“Avevo un buon lavoro una volta” racconta una signora cattolica di Carlisle Road “in una manifattura di tabacco qui nel quartiere. Solo che la maggioranza degli operai era protestante. E ho dovuto lasciare il lavoro. Mi hanno picchiata e hanno lasciato la bandiera lealista sul mio macchinario…”.

La politica a Belfast sembra non essere in grado di offrire soluzioni, lasciando così nuovo spazio ai repubblicani armati. L’obbiettivo? La Polizia e l’esercito britannico.

E proprio lo Sinn Feinn il 13 luglio ha dovuto alzare bandiera bianca nel quartiere di Ardoyne, dove cercava di frapporsi fra i cattolici e la polizia che a sua volta aveva formato un cordone per evitare il contatto con la parata orangista.

Membri dello Sinn Feinn del quartiere ma non solo hanno invano e più volte tentato di frenare i giovani che cercavano un ingaggio con la polizia. In pochi minuti però hanno dovuto lasciare quartiere che è rimasto in mano agli agguerriti streetfighters. Politicamente, una sconfitta.

Una pioggia di molotov, fitte sassaiole, barricate, auto incendiate e la polizia che ha risposta con idranti, cariche e proiettili di plastica. Durante gli scontri, un uomo della Real Ira armato di pistola si è fatto largo tra i giovani streetfighters che ingaggiavano contro la polizia, ha puntato, ha sparato, ma non ha centrato il bersaglio. Quello che doveva fare fuoco infatti era un fucile di precisione ritrovato per caso poche ore prima da alcuni ragazzini del quartiere e consegnato al prete di Ardoyne. Il quale, a sua volta, lo ha consegnato alla polizia. Due arresti nei giorni scorsi proprio nel quartiere, dove gli inquirenti sono ancora caccia dell’uomo che ha sparato.

Martin Rafferty, prigioniero politico repubblicano che ha militato in passato tra le file dell’Ira, e incontrato durante una sua breve licenza dal carcere, fotografa così la situazione: “C’è molta tensione dopo la stagione delle marce orangiste, c’è forse un riposizionamento dei repubblicani che vedono che lo Sinn Feinn non sta mantenendo le promesse e c’è ancora disuguaglianza qui nel nord dell’Irlanda. Noi cerchiamo il dialogo con i protestanti, con cui abbiamo molto più in comune di quello che la gente pensa, ma c’è una forza sinistra qui sullo sfondo che fa in modo che noi non abbiamo successo. Ed è per questo che noi repubblicani crediamo che l’unico modo per avere la pace sia che i britannici lascino l’Irlanda”.

La pace, il dialogo? Real e Continuity Ira sono convinte che la lotta armata sia l’unica via e preparano nuove azioni. E intanto la gente vive all’ombra dei muri che a Belfast separano i quartieri cattolici da quelli protestanti.

“Vedi il muro lì? Il ‘peacewall’, il muro della pace, serve a dividere le due comunità. Qui la situazione è molto simile alla Palestina” ha detto James, un giovane 26 enne protestante la notte del 12 luglio mentre accatastava legna sul “bonefire”, la tradizionale pira che avrebbe bruciato il tricolore irlandese. E la soluzione della questione delle 6 contee? La soluzione del settarismo e della violenza qui a Belfast? “Non sarà in questa mia vita - racconta sconsolata una donna cattolica: forse i mie nipoti la vedranno, di certo non io”.

In lotta per un’Irlanda libera e sovrana

Dopo gli scontri dei giorni scorsi, sembra essersi riaccesa la vena insurrezionalista nordirlandese. La delusione, dagli accordi del ’98, è cresciuta inesorabilmente. Le promesse di una pace che avrebbe dovuto portare diritti e prosperità al popolo nordirlandese si sono rivelate menzogne. Lo Sinn Fein si è perfettamente integrato nel panorama politico britannico e sembra che il suo unico interesse sia la sopravvivenza fine a se stessa dell’organizzazione, che non tutela più i Repubblicani – ormai li definisce “delinquenti” – e ha sacrificato i principi della causa irlandese in cambio degli scranni nel parlamento di Stormont.
Rinascita, in merito, due esponenti Repubblicani irlandesi, Ciaran Boyle, portavoce del 32CSM di Derry, e Kevin McQuillan, del Republican Network for Unity.

Lo Sinn Fein dice che i ragazzi che partecipano agli scontri sono solo dei teppisti senza appoggio popolare. Cosa ne pensate?

Ciaran Boyle: Prima che 13 innocenti civili disarmati fossero uccisi con colpi d’arma da fuoco (il Bloody Sunday, ndr), qui nella città di Derry, nel 1972 l’esercito britannico, unionisti e anche i nazionalisti moderati, descrivevano i rivoltosi del Bogside di Derry come teppisti. Oggi, ci sono membri dello Sinn Fein che imitano la polizia britannica, descrivendo i rivoltosi di Belfast e Derry come delinquenti. Questi giovani hanno agito in difesa della loro zona che era stata attraversata dai membri pesantemente armati della PSNI, giovani il cui unico obiettivo era quello di forzare allontanare l0organizzazione anti cattolica e anti irlandese dal loro quartiere. E se questi giovani non hanno avuto alcun supporto dalla popolazione, come dice lo Sinn Fein, allora perché nessuno è uscito per fermarli?
Kevin McQuillan: È una completa assurdità. Il malcontento sociale e la resistenza esplosi non solo sulle vie dell’Ardoyne, ma anche in altri quartieri di Belfast e delle sei contee lunedì ed ogni notte da allora, sono la conseguenza degli anni di frustrazione e di rabbia. Frustrazione per i fallimentari accordi del Venerdì Santo, che hanno dato vita gli articoli 2 & 3 in cambio di che cosa?!?! ….una foto con Ian Paisley e altri ministri britannici… 11 anno dopo lo Sinn Fein F non ha potuto neppure ottenere una legge la tutela della lingua irlandese. Rabbia per il fatto che le condizioni e le prospettive per la classe lavoratrice nel Nord sono peggiorate progressivamente, mentre il sistema oppressivo della forza di “polizia” politica e paramilitare britannica - RUC/PSNI - è rimasto saldamente al suo posto. Lo sfogo al quale abbiamo assistito è giunto al culmine di tutto questo. Sono stati tutti motivati dagli scritti di James Connolly o dall’esempio di Bobby Sands? TUTTI aderiscono ai principi così come sono stati sanciti nella i nella Proclamation del 1916? Naturalmente no! La loro motivazione arriva chiaramente dalla gioventù Repubblicana ma mista ad altri giovani antiautoritari e, sì, persino con una storia di attività antisociale. È con e per questi giovani che i socialisti repubblicani devono agire.

Perché si sono riaccese le proteste?

Ciaran Boyle: Le proteste sono ricominciate per diversi motivi, alcuni potrebbero dire che sono aumentate dalla recente uccisione del membro delle forze inglesi. Tuttavia, le cose stavano fermentando da un po’ di tempo. Per esempio la vicenda dei cosiddetti “Derry Four” (quattro uomini arrestati in Donegal dalla Garda - la polizia irlandese - accusati di appartenenza all’Ira), il nuovo arresto di Terry Mc Cafferty e quello di Colin Duffy, hanno giocato la loro parte nel contribuire all’aumento del supporto a coloro che da sempre si oppongono agli accordi del Venerdì Santo e naturalmente ad organizzazioni come il 32CSM. Il repubblicanesimo sta giungendo alla conclusione che l’accordo di Venerdì Santo ha rinforzato il dominio britannico in Irlanda, e non lo ha indebolito come affermato dai nostri ex compagni.
Kevin McQuillan: Le proteste non si sono mai concluse. Solo erano state infiltrate, dirette, controllate per farle diventare inefficaci come una risata sotto la stretta vigilanza del Sinn Fein. Quel che pensiamo è stato testimoniato ora – non solo in riferimento alle proteste contro le marce orangiste cacciate dai quartieri repubblicani - ma nelle associazioni dei residenti e della comunità, che manifestano le loro esigenze rispetto a questioni come quelle del diritto alla casa, è un risorgere della fiducia nella politica di strada.

Lo Sinn Fein ha ancora appoggio popolare? Cosa pensano gli irlandesi del partito di Gerry Adams?

Ciaran Boyle: Ha un mandato significativo ma decrescente nella politica irlandese. Tuttavia per il cosiddetto Gerrymandering (parola d’origine inglese che rappresenta un metodo ingannevole per ridisegnare i confini dei collegi nel sistema elettorale maggioritario) lo Sinn Fein di non ha nessuna prospettiva di ottenere un mandato democratico di maggioranza nelle sei contee occupate. La politica costituzionale non espellerà mai il governo britannico dall’Irlanda. Come giovane membro della 32CSM, io vedo Adams come un capo politico che è stato corrotto dal potere e dalla ricchezza. È completamente dal fuori dalla realtà nella quale vive la gente della classe lavoratrice della mia città natale, in particolare i giovani.
Kevin McQuillan: Lo Sinn Fein è il più grande partito nazionalista nelle sei contee. È un fatto. Non c’è motivo di dubitare che resterà così nel breve e medio termine. Quel che accade è che continueranno a perdere il supporto ed i voti dei nazionalisti della classe lavoratrice. A ciò si aggiunge il fatto che lo SF ha generato una situazione per cui la sua popolarità iniziale nelle aree centrali repubblicane e nazionaliste è stata sostituita, non in piccola parte attraverso il loro condizionamento, da una dipendenza. A meno che non arrivi un radicale e unito movimento Repubblicano Socialista in alternativa…nelle strade o in occasione delle elezioni…

Quanti sono gli arrestati per gli scontri di questi giorni? Chi sono, quanti anni hanno e di cosa sono accusati? Cosa devono aspettarsi?

Ciaran Boyle: Parecchi giovani sono stati arrestati (in due sono stati fortunatamente rilasciati giovedì, ndr). È troppo presto per determinare l’età o l’affiliazione politica. Ma chiunque venga arrestato peri cosiddetti “reati di terrorismo” può essere tenuto in custodia fino a 28 giorni senza alcuna accusa formale. Circostanze che sono già state esaminate dalle organizzazioni e da avvocati che si occupano di i diritti umani.
Kevin McQuillan: I numeri che ci segnalano stanno variando in un modo difficile da quantificare esattamente al momento. Sappiamo che due uomini di 20 anni sono stati arrestati in relazione a dei colpi di arma da fuoco esplosi contro laRUC/PSNI (poi rilasciati, ndr). Altri, dei ragazzi sui 17 anni, sono stati arrestati per gli scontri. Nessuno di noi è a conoscenza di loro affiliazioni a qualcuno dei gruppi Repubblicani anti-accordo.

L’Irlanda è parte dell’Europa, perché, secondo voi, l’informazione europea si disinteressa di un conflitto così importante che riguarda un Paese europeo?

Ciaran Boyle: È nell’interesse dell’Unione Europea per gli ovvi motivi, finanziari, di mostrare gli avvenimenti recenti in Irlanda come semplici atti criminali. Il controllo dei media è la più grande arma dell’occupante. La Gran Bretagna ha ridotto al silenzio tutti i media che avrebbero potuto far notare che il contributo all’IRA e la resistenza alla sua presenza illegale sta sviluppandosi. Se i media britannici non riescono a segnalare che cosa realmente sta accadendo i media europei seguono la stessa logica. Perciò è importante che raggiungiamo i media in Europa che sono conosciuti per il loro giornalismo onesto.
Kevin McQuillan: Abbastanza semplicemente, in assenza di giornalisti coraggiosi che vogliono andare a cercare le vere “storie” ..... i media internazionali preferiscono prendere le notizie dai comunicati stampa del governo britannico si uniformano a quel che vedono ed ascoltano dalla BBC.

Gli inglesi hanno mai voluto la pace?

Ciaran Boyle: I lealisti sono uno strumento dell’occupazione illegale dell’Irlanda, che è controllata dai britannici. È attualmente negli interessi britannici descrivere l’occupazione come normale e pacifica. Il governo britannico può rapidamente “premere l’interruttore” che attiva gli squadroni della morte lealisti quando lo ritiene giusto. Il 75% dell’isola d’Irlanda aspira ad una Irlanda unita. Quel che chiede il 32CSM è che la Gran Bretagna riconosca il dritto della gente irlandese alla sua autodeterminazione nazionale. Attualmente ci rifiutano questo diritto, che è la causa del conflitto in Irlanda. La gente delle 26 contee può, come ora, essere in disaccordo strategico con noi, tuttavia sono d’accordo con il nostro obiettivo: l’Irlanda unita, sovrana ed indivisibile.
Kevin McQuillan:
Le sei contee sono state divise dal resto dell’Irlanda nell’ambito di uno stato d’emergenza. Il lealismo e i lealisti erano e sono immersi in questo e sono estremamente ostili a qualunque cosa sia irlandese, cattolico, nazionalista o Repubblicano.

Cosa accadrà nei prossimi giorni? Le proteste continueranno?

Ciaran Boyle: Mi attendo più arresti e proteste. A Derry abbiamo un’altra parata lealista ben conosciuta, in questi ultimi anni, per quello che scatena. I membri locali del 32CSM stanno anche progettando di protestare contro un vertice della polizia britannica che dovrò avere luogo nel Bogside. Il governo britannico deve realizzare che finché occuperà questo Paese o qualunque altro Paese incontrerà una resistenza feroce.
Kevin McQuillan: La storia di degli scontri urbani, qui, durante gli anni passati, dice che le cose dovrebbero calmarsi. A meno che RUC/PSNI non continuino con i loro atti di provocazione, con l’infastidire i giovani, con le incursioni nelle case.

Tre giorni consecutivi di scontri nelle città delle sei contee occupate. Lo Sinn Fein condanna i rivoltosi e ancora una volta si schiera con gli occupanti.

“Fottuto irlandese, hai paura eh?”. Così gridavano, lunedì, i poliziotti britannici ai Repubblicani che li caricavano, cacciandoli fuori dall’Ardoyne. Ma quale paura. Quale timore possono avere dei ragazzi che, armati di sassi e molotov, affrontano poliziotti in tenuta antisommossa che sparano ad altezza d’uomo, che arrestano indiscriminatamente, che puniscono arbitrariamente.
Si ha paura del futuro da occupati, colonizzati, ghettizzati, non di coloro fanno la guardia ad un regime oppressivo e iniquo. È coraggio e voglia di libertà quello che porta dei giovani irlandesi nelle strade, a difendere un territorio, strade e quartieri dove, dalla sera del 13 luglio, i poliziotti britannici e i loro fiancheggiatori dello Sinn Fein non possono più entrare.
Da allora, sera in cui la lotta per l’indipendenza dell’Irlanda sembra essersi risvegliata nelle strade, nei giorni successivi nuovi scontri hanno acceso le notti dell’Ardoyne e di altre città nordirlandesi.
Mercoledì, per la terza notte consecutiva si sono susseguiti tafferugli nel noto quartiere di North Belfast. Circa 100 giovani, riunitisi a Brompton Park, hanno lanciato pietre, bottiglie di vetro, razzi, bombe-carta, vernice ed almeno una molotov contro agli agenti di polizia in tenuta anti sommossa, presenti in gran numero nella zona. Ad un certo punto i poliziotti britannici hanno inseguito di alcuni ragazzi che li avevano attaccati armati di tubi da impalcatura. In due sono arrestati per disordine pubblico. Le tensioni sono continuate fino all’1.30 del mattino. La stampa attribuisce la ragione degli scontri all’arresto di un ragazzo di 28 anni fermato con l’accusa di avere esploso, nelle manifestazioni di lunedì, un colpo di arma da fuoco contro un poliziotto. In seguito all’arresto del giovane si è tenuta mercoledì una manifestazione pacifica al di fuori della stazione di polizia in Antrim Road. Ma pare che un altro ragazzo, di 30 anni, sia stato fermato sempre in relazione agli spari contro la polizia del 13 luglio
Da parte dei politici dello Sinn Fein è arrivata la consueta condanna degli scontri e ieri la stampa britannica ha diffuso la notizia che alcuni leader del partito siano stati oggetti di minacce per aver criticato i recenti disordini di Belfast.
Una delle persone minacciate si ritiene possa essere Gerry Kelly, ex militante dell’Ira e ora membro dello Sinn Fein, che il giorno dopo i fatti del 13 luglio aveva portato la stampa sui luoghi degli scontri dichiarando che i ragazzi coinvolti erano dei teppisti senza alcun appoggio popolare, portati da fuori, e affermando “andate a chiedere al 32 CSM e al Repubblican SF”, è colpa di quelli che fanno male al processo di pace, quelli che “dicono di chiamarsi Real Ira”. Tutto senza pronunciare una sola parola di condanna per le forze di polizia britanniche, che hanno ferito 10 persone sparando i proiettili di plastica ad altezza d’uomo e usando i cannoni ad acqua.
Kelly, come il resto dei politici dello Sinn Fein, sembra non solo aver dimenticato il passato, ma pare anche non vedere quel che accade ogni giorno nelle sei contee occupate. La situazione di discriminazione quotidiana, di disagio economico e sociale è rimasta la stessa dagli accordi del ’98, quelli che avrebbero dovuto inaugurare una nuova stagione di rapporti fra le comunità protestante e cattolica, che avrebbero dovuto “normalizzare” il conflitto. Ma da allora sono state solo parole e retorica. E oggi, lo Sinn fein nemmeno si maschera più da movimento repubblicano: invita a rispettare “la cultura unionista” e il “diritto degli orangisti a marciare” mentre denuncia i Repubblicani, gli nega l’assistenza in carcere, li definisce dei “criminali comuni”.
Oggi, nell’Irlanda occupata, è peggio che negli anni ’70. Allora i Repubblicani venivano prelevati e arrestati per affiliazione all’Ira e per reati d’opinione, ma poi doveva essere un giudice, anche se britannico, a condannarli e a farli restare in carcere. Oggi, invece, la legge prevede una detenzione massima in assenza di capi d’imputazione di 28 giorni, dopodiché basta l’accusa di essere associati alla Real Ira per essere lasciati in carcere. Un’accusa che si avvale di prove assurde, come la semplice conoscenza o frequentazione di associati alla formazione Repubblicana.

Nelle sei contee occupate del Nord d’Irlanda la pace non c’è. Nonostante le bugie che lo Sinn Fein racconta a livello internazionale, la situazione è proprio completamente diversa. L’occupazione britannica non solo rimane, ma è ben visibile nella vita di tutti i giorni. Violenza, repressione, settarismo, arresti. E poi una divisione continua tra la comunità lealista che ha accesso a scuole di prima scelta, credito, lavoro, spazi di aggregazione e per il tempo libero, e quella repubblicana costretta in enclave che in molti casi diventano veri e propri ghetti chiusi da muri e recinti. Oltre a tutto questo, inoltre, continuano gli arresti per reati di opinione e di associazione con meccanismi perversi. Altro che pace in questo angolo dell’Isola verde. Noi siamo andati a vedere con i nostri occhi la situazione nel carcere di massima sicurezza di Maghaberry. Qui sono stati rinchiusi una trentina di repubblicani che solo negli ultimi due anni hanno riacquistato, dopo la “dirty protest” e decine di altre manifestazioni, lo status di prigioniero politico. Quello che per capirci che gli permette di stare tutti insieme in un braccio del penitenziario, di vestire abiti civili, di occuparsi della propria educazione. Quello per cui Bobby Sands e gli altri scioperanti della fame sono morti nel 1981. Uno status che era stato cancellato dagli accordi del Venerdì santo firmato dallo Sinn Fein di Adams e McGuinnes che oggi, non solo si è dimenticato dei suoi ex compagni di lotta, ma ha anche iniziato a chiamarli “traditori” e a prenderne le distanze. Come nel caso degli scontri del 13 luglio di quest’anno nel quartiere di Ardoyne a Belfast. O come ancora nel caso dei prigionieri politici, che lo Sinn Fein ha dimenticato, disconosciuto e ha cercato di far trattare come i criminali comuni. “Qui non ci sono prigionieri feniani”, spiega Terry McCafferty durante il nostro incontro in carcere. “Dopo aver vinto la nostra battaglia, siamo divisi in due piani, ma almeno siamo tutti insieme, come prigionieri politici repubblicani e non insieme ai criminali comuni”. “Qui non c’è droga e siamo organizzati per tenere le nostre menti e i nostri corpi sempre attivi. Ci occupiamo dell’educazione alla cultura e alla lingua dei nostri padri. E anche alla preparazione politica dei nostri militanti”, continua il prigioniero repubblicano. Parlare con Terry McCafferty è u po’ come toccare con mano la storia della resistenza irlandese. Condannato a 12 anni per attivismo repubblicano legato ad una bomba della Real Ira contro gli occupanti, era stato scarcerato dopo sei anni. Libero per tre settimane, riesce finalmente ad andare in luna di miele con la moglie e, appena tornato, a pochi giorni da Natale, viene arrestato nuovamente. Ma senza motivo. O meglio, viene riportato nel penitenziario di Maghaberry “per i suoi principi”. “Era il primo Natale dopo sei anni che avrebbe potuto passare con i suoi figli e invece lo hanno riportato in carcere senza un motivo. Sono tornata a casa da sola dall’aeroporto e tutti i nostri bambini aspettavano il papà e a quel punto gli ho dovuto spiegare che era stato riportato in prigione”, racconta la moglie Martine, mamma e donna tutta d’un pezzo che affronta la lontananza del marito e le vessazioni britanniche con orgoglio e forza. “Finiamo in carcere senza un’imputazione – spiega deciso McCafferty - Per le leggi speciali ci possono tenere qui dentro senza prove solo per 28 giorni. Ma poi per un meccanismo assurdo ci continuano a tenere in prigione per il reato di associazione all’Ira”. Ed è proprio qui il particolare più assurdo.
L’unica prova di associazione a carico di Terry, che per altro dopo 7 mesi di detenzione senza motivo ancora non è stato giudicato, è l’associazione con gli altri detenuti con cui ha diviso la cella negli ultimi anni e che è andato a trovare una volta fuori. Tutto qui. “Ma avete fatto ricorso alla Corte europea dei diritti dell’uomo?”, è la domanda spontanea, mentre i secondini ogni tanto ci scrutano. “Certo, ma il verdetto potrebbe arrivare anche tra 5 anni. E intanto io, insieme ad altri come me, rimango in carcere”. La storia di McCafferty è semplicemente incredibile, ad oggi un icona della causa irlandese. Mentre parliamo suona l’allarme del carcere, si chiudono i passaggi, iniziano i correre i secondini con il manganelli in mano. “Cosa succede?”. “Semplice, quello che succede molto spesso. Staranno picchiano qualcuno dei nostri, senza motivo, solo per provare a piegarci mentalmente e fisicamente. Ma non ce la faranno”, dice orgoglioso McCafferty. E le storie che racconta portano tristemente alla memoria i racconti del diario di Bobby Sands. Pestaggi durante la notte, senza motivo, magari con secondini ubriachi e che fanno vedere tatuaggi con simboli lealisti. Storie che ovviamente rimangono nel silenzio, con un governo bi-confessionale che fa finta di non vedere. I protestanti per ovvi motivi. Quelli dello Sinn Fein per evitare di infastidire Londra e continuare a servire Sua Maestà. Ma la causa repubblicana sembra solo più forte e viva di prima.

Censura su Belfast in rivolta

Gli accordi di pace del 10 aprile 1998 - firmati dal Sinn Fein, da Londra e dagli unionisti filo-britannici - sono ormai, nel Nord Irlanda, un mero pezzo di carta.
Fino alle 4 della notte tra lunedì e martedì, è divampata la rivolta dei repubblicani irlandesi contro le marce dei cosiddetti “unionisti”, volte a celebrare la vittoria di Guglielmo III d’Inghilterra (d’Orange) nella battaglia del Boyne del 1690 con la definitiva occupazione britannica dell’Irlanda. I disordini si sono estesi a tutte le città e i borghi del Nord dell’isola, da Belfast a Derry, da Armah a Rasharkin.
Soltanto a tarda sera uno sparuto gruppo di miliziani pro-britannici, sì e no un centinaio di persone, blindato da un ingente dispositivo di polizia, è riuscito ad attraversare (e questa era la consueta provocazione studiata a tavolino contro i residenti cattolici) il quartiere dell’Ardoyne di Belfast. Gerry Kelly, ex Ira e ora Sinn Fein, è stato allontanato dai militanti indipendentisti Repubblicani, criticato e schernito per i compromessi anti-sociali (il disagio delle famiglie e la precarietà del lavoro che colpisce la “minoranza” irlandese) e contro l’indipendenza siglati con il governo di Londra. Da tempo il Sinn Fein è accusato di aver trasformato le strutture del suo partito in covi di spie e di collaborazionisti degli inglesi.
La protesta repubblicana è stata voluta anche per ricordare all’Europa di Bruxelles, quella delle “guerre umanitarie” e dei cosiddetti “diritti umani” che ben 30 prigionieri politici nord-irlandesi sono da tempo ristretti nelle carceri di Belfast e sottoposti a regime di semi-isolamento e a maltrattamenti.
Quello che è più grave è che nessun organo di (dis)informazione di massa della “democratica” Unione europea, giornali e radiotv italianai in primis, ha ritenuto politicamente corretto informare i propri lettori, spettatori e sudditi su quanto avviene ed è avvenuto in Irlanda.
Come si conviene in “democrazia”, la migliore repressione contro chi si batte contro l’occupazione anglosassone - o atlantica - di una qualunque delle terre europee diventate colonia, Italya compresa, è il silenzio.

I Repubblicani si oppongono alle marce unioniste

È la vera sconfitta del Sinn Féin. Ieri, nell’Irlanda del Nord, centinaia di militanti Repubblicani sono scesi in piazza come non accadeva da tempo per protestare contro le parate dei protestanti orangisti e scontrandosi con la polizia. Ma a perdere, oltre ai protestanti - che sono riusciti a passare nel quartiere di Belfast dell’Ardoyne, con quasi tre ore di ritardo e in appena 100 persone, impauritissime e iper blindate dalla polizia britannica – è stato il movimento di Gerry Adams, allontanato dalla piazza dell’Ardoyne dai militanti Repubblicani.
I disordini, esplosi nel pomeriggio, si sono protratti sino alle quattro del mattino e sono esplosi quando gli unionisti hanno dato vita alla tradizionale marcia di luglio a Belfast e in altre città.
I repubblicani stanchi di provocazioni e vessazioni di ogni genere hanno attaccato le marce unioniste con sassi e notte molotov, hanno innalzato barricate e dato alle fiamme numerose macchino. Sono stati esplosi anche un paio di colpi di pistola contro i poliziotti britannici. Il bilancio degli scontri ha visto il ferimento di ventitré rappresentanti delle forze dell’ordine inglesi. Disordini sono avvenuti anche in altre località dell’Irlanda del Nord tra cui Derry, Armah e Rasharkin. In tutto almeno sette agenti sono rimasti feriti mentre a Belfast un giovane manifestante è stato trasportato in ospedale.
Disordini anche a Rasharkin, nella contea di Antrim, nel nord est del Paese, dove tre poliziotti sono rimasti feriti e un uomo è stato arrestato.
I protestanti dell’ordine unionista dell’Irlanda del nord celebrare ogni anno l’anniversario della battaglia della Boyne, vinta nel 1690 dal protestante Guglielmo d’Orange contro il cattolico Giacomo II. Una marcia considerata una provocazione dai nazionalisti irlandesi. Per decenni, infatti, le marce orangiste di luglio sono state occasione di scontro con i cattolici o con le forze dell’ordine, ma dopo gli accordi di pace del ’98 la tensione era notevolmente calata. Fino ad oggi. L’appiattimento del Sinn Féin su posizioni più lassiste che moderate ha riacceso nei giovani irlandesi lo spirito indipendentista. Dagli accordi del venerdì santo, che avrebbero dovuto portare alla “normalizzazione” del conflitto, nulla in Irlanda è cambiato: uguali al passato le provocazioni dei protestanti, i maltrattamenti dei prigionieri Repubblicani, la condizione economica e sociale svantaggiata dei cittadini irlandesi. Una cristallizzazione che il movimento di Adams sembra non vedere. Anzi, ieri il leader del Sinn Féin ha subito condannato i giovani repubblicani per le manifestazioni per non rischiare di perdere il ruolo di interlocutore del governo britannico. Un portavoce del Sinn Féin ha anche precisato che la mobilitazione dei Repubblicani è stata organizzata dalla Real Ira, il gruppo dissidente che non ha mai accettato gli accordi di pace interconfessionali del 10 aprile 1998. Una situazione questa che ha messo chiaramente in evidenza le difficoltà che sta attraversando il partito moderato che punta soltanto a mantenere gli accordi presi con gli unionisti e Londra. Una posizione oramai poco condivisa dai giovani militanti repubblicani come dimostrano le violente manifestazioni di questi giorni in tutto il Paese.
Ieri è stato definitivamente sancito che la pace nelle contee occupate non esiste e che i Repubblicani irlandesi hanno riconquistato il seguito popolare. Il popolo d’Irlanda combatte ancora.

È violenza quotidiana contro i Repubblicani irlandesi

Colin Duffy (foto) è un ex prigioniero dell’Ira. Arrestato nel 1990, nel ’93, nel ’97, la persecuzione è continuata fino ad oggi con l’ultimo arresto, avvenuto a marzo con l’accusa di essere coinvolto nell’uccisione di 2 soldati britannici. Si tratta dell’attentato di Massereene, nella Contea di Antrim, avvenuto il 7 marzo. Colin, martedì 7 luglio è stato aggredito dalle guardie del carcere di Maghaberry che lo stavano riaccompagnando dopo un videoconferenza tenuta dal prigioniero con il tribunale. Colin ha subito forti percosse, al capo, al volto e al tronco. Il carcere di Maghaberry è un esempio di come le politiche repressive e punitive britanniche contro i prigionieri Repubblicani non siano mai cambiate dai tempi degli hunger-strikers. La scorsa Pasqua la direzione del carcere ha proibito ai detenuti politici Repubblicani di indossare gli “easter lillies”, i gigli pasquali della tradizione cattolica che simboleggiano il ricordo dei compagni caduti. Chi l’ha fatto, contravvenendo l’ordine, è stato messo in isolamento per 48 ore.
L’Irlanda resta una terra insorgente. A 12 anni dagli accordi del Venerdì Santo nulla è cambiato. Non le violenze e le sopraffazioni degli occupanti britannici, non la volontà di ribellione. E i due attentati dello scorso marzo - quello di Massereene e, pochi giorni dopo, quello di Craigavon, nella Contea di Armagh, nel quale è stato ucciso un poliziotto - sono nuovi atti di ribellione armata che delineano un sentimento mai sopito nell’Irlanda occupata, che si innesta e trae linfa dal malcontento, soprattutto giovanile, che serpeggia nelle periferie cattoliche, dove la repressione inglese è pane quotidiano. Arresti indiscriminati, perquisizioni violente e immotivate, fermi giudiziari che superano spesso e volentieri i sette giorni previsti dalla legge e misure detentive lesive dei più elementari diritti umani. Non stupisce che la risposta dei britannici ai due attentati di marzo sia stata come al solito di tipo repressivo. Retate, perquisizioni, arresti sommari fra i militanti cattolici, mancato rispetto dei tempi massimi di fermo preventivo in assenza di accuse. Colin Duffy è finito in questo vortice. Il suo arresto, come disse suo fratello Paul poco dopo il fermo, è scaturito dalla demonizzazione che alcuni politici dello Sinn Fein ed i media hanno fatto del nome di Colin a causa di alcune osservazioni fatti l’anno prima nelle quali affermava che gli attacchi contro le forze di polizia sono un sintomo di opposizione nazionalista.
Una punizione insomma, che la polizia britannica ha voluto infliggere ad un militante Repubblicano di lunga data. Scaduti i 28 giorni concessi alla polizia per trattenere i prigionieri in assenza di un’accusa formale, la famiglia di Colin ha fatto ricorso ad un tribunale “e il giudice ci ha dato ragione” ha ricordato la cognata di Colin e portavoce del “Friends of Colin Duffy”, Mandy Duffy. “La polizia ha dovuto rilasciare Colin. Ma appena uscito dalla caserma la polizia lo ha nuovamente arrestato e dopo 3 giorni lo hanno accusato di omicidio”, ha aggiunto Mandy.
Colin si trova quindi ancora in carcere, dove subisce violenze di ogni genere, le ultime sono quelle di martedì scorso: “Colin stava tornando da un collegamento video con il tribunale come ogni mese e le guardie che lo stavano portando di nuovo alla sua cella hanno iniziato ad insultarlo verbalmente. Poi hanno deciso di farlo spogliare nudo per un perquisizione e dopo hanno iniziato ad picchiarlo. Hanno chiamato la squadra anti sommossa, (per UNA PERSONA!!!!!!!!!!!) e hanno iniziato a picchiarlo e dargli calci”, ha raccontato Mandy Duffy che ha voluto ricordare come “questo non succede solo con Colin, succede con tutti i Repubblicani, quelli dentro la galera e quelli ancora liberi, ciò che Colin ha passato quando era libero, ora la sta passando anche in galera. I media irlandesi ignorano ciò che succede ai POW. Noi vediamo questo arresto come un’altra incriminazione con false accuse. Colin è innocente, come le altre volte”.

Lurgan republican, Colin Duffy, was assaulted earlier today by prison officers only minutes after he had taken part in a video link remand hearing. On being returned to the remand wing within Maghaberry prison, Mr Duffy was accompanied by two prison officers, both of whom he has described as being extremely hostile and antagonistic towards him.

During the strip search procedures, which Mr Duffy was fully compliant with, the two officers assaulted Mr Duffy before summoning for the prison riot squad, who then appeared at the search point dressed in full riot equipment.

Mr Duffy is believed to have received blows to the head, face and upper body and has severe bruising.

His family believe that the two prison officers had deliberately used the regular video-linked remand hearing to orchestrate the attack upon Colin. His wife Martine said, "Colin has undergone these strip searches on his way to and from this regular remand hearing. On all previous occasions, he has fully complied with the search procedures and there have been no untoward incidents involving him. However, those officers carrying out the so-called escort duties today were not the regular ones. Both were making very antagonistic comments to him beforehand and then used the excuse of the search procedures to carry out an unprovoked physical assault on Colin.

Two weeks ago another republican prisoner in Maghaberry was also injured when he too was assaulted by prison officers.

IRPWA: DIRTY PROTEST NELL’ALA E3 DELLA PRIGIONE DI PORTLAOISE

E’ con grande rammarico che l’IRPWA invita la famiglia repubblicanaa a sostenere ancora una volta i POWs (prisoner of war, ndr) nella loro protesta contro la palese ingiustizia del sistema carcerario in Irlanda.
L’IRPWA è stata incaricata dai POWs repubblicani a precisare come e perché si è verificatoa questa protesta e di chiarirne le ragioni
Una protesta è attualmente in corso nell’ala E3 di Portlaoise Prison a causa della sospensione dei programmi di ‘rilascio temporaneo’ (TR, temporary release ndr) e del ‘rilascio compassionevole’ (CR, compassionate release ndr). E ‘ convinzione dei POW’s che questa sia una ritorsione alle azioni dell’ IRA nelle sei contee occupate, infatti, l’Irish Prison Service ha incaricato alcuni dei suoi portavoce a chiedere all’OC (Officer Commanding, ndr) dell’ala E3 se ‘crede nel frontiera’!
La situazione attuale è la seguente: due prigionieri repubblicani (Vinny Kelly e Justin McCarthy) sono attualmente impegnati in una no wash/dirty protest, non in una blanket protest come inizialmente lasciato trapelare.
Ad intervalli di tempo, tutti i POWs repubblicani aderiranno alla protesta, e in quella fase, vi sarà la sua escalation.
Il rappresentante dell’Irish Prison Service e il governatore hanno chiesto all’OC di riconsiderare la posizione dei POWs in attesa di un colloquio con il Free State Government. L’unica concessione dei POW sè stata di ritardare l’adesione di altri uomini alla protesta per un breve periodo di tempo per dare loro la possibilità di risolvere il problema. E’ impressione dell’IRPWA, che questa finestra di opportunità si chiuderà rapidamente e per questo ci appelliamo a tutti coloro che sono coinvolti nel Free State Government e nell’Irish Prison Service, a compiere notevoli sforzi per risolvere questa situazione intollerabile, non appena possibile.

Protest on E3 Portlaoise Gaol (IRPWA)
It is with great regret that the IRPWA call upon the republican family to once again support POW’s in their protest against the blatant injustice of the Prison system in Ireland.
The IRPWA have been tasked by the republican POW’s to state how and why this protest has occurred and to clarify the facts of this protest.
A protest is currently underway on E3 Portlaoise due to the suspension of the temporary release (TR) and compassionate release (CR) programmes. It is the belief of the POW’s that this has happened due to IRA actions in the occupied six counties, indeed the Irish Prison Service have indicated this much and one of their spokespersons has even asked the OC of E3 if he ‘Believed in the border’!
The situation at present is as follows: Two republicans prisoners (Vinny Kelly and Justin McCarthy) are currently involved in a no wash/dirty protest, NOT on the blanket as some have suggested. At intervals republican POW’s will join this protest until the whole landing is on protest , at this stage the protest will escalate.
The Irish Prison Service representative and the Governor have asked the Officer Commanding to reconsider the POW’s stance pending talks with the Free State government, the only concession the POW’s have been willing to make at this stage is to delay further men joining the protest for a short period to give them a chance to resolve the issue. It is the understanding of the IRPWA that this window of opportunity is fast closing and we would urge all those involved in the Free State government and the Irish Prison Service to make strenuous efforts to resolve this intolerable situation as soon as possible.

Statement from Republican Prisoners E3 to the Irish Prison Service.
The Irish Prison Service (IPS) states in its mission statement that one of its goals is to try to maintain relationships between prisoners and their families. This is one of the reasons for it’s Temporary Release (TR) programme. When a prisoner is released his chances of settling back into normal family relationships are improved. The programme was also to help prisoners to seek housing accommodation and social welfare payments and help further their education upon release.
The process for Political prisoners has always been compassionate on TR. We have always obeyed the rules set out surrounding releases of this nature. We have always maintained the integrity of being Republican prisoners by returning on time and there has never been an issue with this. We recognise the importance of these releases on the grounds that if we are to maintain family ties important events must be attended. In the past the IPS has allowed Republican prisoners to attend funerals of family and loved ones. It has also allowed for important religious events such as Christenings, First Holy Communions and Confirmations.
It has recently stopped all of this without any explanation being given. Examples of this include denials of applications to attend children’s First Holy Communions and funerals of close relatives. One application was submitted when a Republican prisoner’s only aunt passed away and the application came back denied after the funeral had already taken place. Another application was denied for a prisoner to attend the funeral of his twin’s mother and denied again for the twins Confirmation eight months after the death of their mother.
We the Republican prisoners of E3 landing will not tolerate this blatant discrimination and unjust treatment. It is only following recenet events in the six counties that this unfair treatment of our prisoners has intensified. We believe it is directly related and until the IPS and the Governor of Portlaoise Prison are willing to stop this harassment and mistreatment of all Republican prisoners we will commence protest. We will not be used as leverage for the British and Free State governments.

Real IRA statement: ‘It fell to the volunteers of Óglaigh na hÉireann to carry out the [Denis Donaldson] sentence and punishment demanded in our Army Orders’
‘The leadership of Óglaigh na hÉireann send fraternal greetings to our friends and comrades at home and overseas, especially to those incarcerated by the enemy here in Ireland and further afield.
“Special mention must be made of the families of our POWs. Their resilience in the face of adversity inspires us all. We would remind republicans that, at this time of commemoration, we have a special duty to all POWs and their dependents. We send solidarity greetings to all those revolutionaries fighting to defend the sovereignty of their nations.
“History has shown us that compromise with the British on the issue of national sovereignty has always resulted in those who have compromised condemning those who continue to uphold and defend Irish sovereignty.
“Our struggle is against the British occupation forces and the administrative arm of the British government in Ireland – be they in the RUC/PSNI, the NIO [Northern Ireland Office], or the quislings in Stormont [the DUP-Sinn Féin Executive]. The same has happened in Iraq and Afghanistan: those who assist the occupier always condemn the occupied. However, seldom in such blatant or hysterical terms as we have witnessed recently.
“A former comrade [Martin McGuinness] has come full circle and, with a knight of the British realm [Chief Constable Sir Hugh Orde] at his shoulder, he has labelled our gallant volunteers as traitors to justify his Redmondite stance and home rule politics.
“Let us remind our former comrade of the nature and the actions of a traitor. Treachery is collaborating with the enemy, treachery is betraying your country. Let us give our one-time comrade an example. Denis Donaldson was a traitor and the leadership of the Provisional movement, under guidance from the British government, made provision for Donaldson to escape republican justice in the same manner as Freddie Scappaticci.
“It fell to the volunteers of Óglaigh na hÉireann to carry out the sentence and punishment demanded in our Army Orders and by the wider republican family. No traitor will escape justice regardless of time, rank or past actions. The republican movement has a long memory.
“Recent years have seen the reorganisation and restructuring of Óglaigh na hÉireann. This is continuing and is constantly evolving and being refined to keep abreast of enemy developments in technology and modes of war. It is vital that volunteers educate themselves in such developments and take the necessary steps to safeguard themselves and their comrades.
“Actions by volunteers of Óglaigh na hÉireann in the last year have proved that the tactical use of armed struggle can, and does, bring results. As was witnessed in Antrim, British soldiers and the colonial police will continue to lose their lives as long as the issue of national sovereignty remains unresolved. Óglaigh na hÉireann will continue to strike at the British occupation forces wherever and whenever we decide.
“We also reserve the right to execute anyone providing services, in any shape or form, to the enemy. Those who assist the occupiers have placed themselves in harm’s way. They know what they need to do to extricate themselves from a situation of their own making. There will be no further warnings.
“The same goes for the RUC/PSNI. The RUC/PSNI are a British police force, just like the old RIC [Royal Irish Constabulary].
“Like the RIC, some in their ranks portray themselves as Irish and there to protect and serve their communities. In reality, they are the first line of defence for the British government. They are being used to spy, arrest, interrogate, brutalise and uphold foreign laws against fellow Irishmen.
“By such actions, they forfeit any right to call themselves Irish. Once you don the uniform of your British paymaster, you become its instrument. He who pays the piper calls the tune.
“The leadership of Óglaigh na hÉireann urges republicans to be vigilant in the time ahead. We have no doubt that the British Army and colonial police will seek to once again spill republican blood for recent attacks on their ranks. The republican movement is prepared for this.
“The British political, military and security establishment, along with local allies, will redouble their efforts in the dirty tricks department and their campaign of criminalisation. They will seek to sow mistrust and divisions among republicans and will use counter-revolutionaries to do so. These people will one day be forced to answer for their actions.
“Finally, we reject the assertions of the pro-establishment media that Óglaigh na hÉireann is fractionalised or engaged in criminality. Óglaigh na hÉireann is a unified body committed to the cause of Irish sovereign national self-determination and an end to British rule in Ireland.

The Real IRA refers to itself as Óglaigh na hÉireann. However, in claims of responsibility to media it can use its more popular name, the’Real IRA’ to distinguish itself from a smaller dissident group which also calls itself Óglaigh na hÉireann

A chairde, there are those who would say we are traitors gathered here to commemorate the actions of traitors. Pearse and Connolly were deemed to be traitors because the British trenches in the Somme were filled with Irishmen deceived into thinking that fighting in the imperial slaughter of the First World War would lead to Home Rule. Pearse and Connolly said it wouldn’t, and they were right, but still they were vilified and executed. Ninety three years later republicans once again state that the Home Rule strategy will not deliver Irish freedom. Calling us traitors for saying so from the steps of Stormont, flanked by Britain’s head policeman in Ireland, proves we are also right. We are immensely proud to share the views of Pearse and Connolly.
Once again British soldiers are being killed on Irish soil. Once again British soldiers are using Irish soil to train to kill in foreign wars. Once again establishment nationalists have moved to support the British regime in Ireland. Nothing has changed. Claiming that unity will be achieved by 2016 is similar to the deception employed to lure men to their deaths in the fields of Flanders in the lost hope of securing Home Rule. Nothing has changed here either. The men and women of 1916 fought for fundamental change. They were not reformists, but Irish separatists who articulated the basic republican message that our sovereignty is inalienable and indefeasable.
This year also marks the 90th anniversary of the establishment of the First Dail Eireann. The First Dail was the Proclamation in action. It was an Irish parliament of, by and for the Irish people. It declared our independence to the world and set about a radical social programme to cherish all of the children equally. It remains our blueprint for the future of our country and our people.
Our history is one of conflict because too often our history has been repeated. Political arrangements which usurp Irish sovereignty cannot lead to peace or freedom. Inherent in these arrangements is the attempted suppression of those who seek to defend our sovereignty. They murder us. They hang us. They intern us. They intimidate us. They malign us. It represents that familiar colonial chorus, ever desperate to maintain itself. Trading civil rights in return for recognition of foreign rule condemns our children to fight for that most basic of rights, their own freedom. The men and women of 1916 were not fooled or bought by the trappings of Home Rule nor intimidated by the forces of Westminster and her Irish lackeys. For them democracy meant more than an opinion poll rating or a gerrymandered election. The voice of the people can only be heard if it is freely expressed.
And this is the message which republicans need to articulate today. As republicans we need to put before the people our framework from within which Irish democracy can function without external impediment. We need to set our case against British occupation in a way which is relevant to our people’s needs today. Our aims cannot be solely the product of the past nor can they be a slave to that past. British reasons for remaining in Ireland will change according to modern British interests and republican strategies opposing these interests must adapt accordingly. But in doing so we cannot repeat the failures of history by compromising the legitimacy of our position for the appearance of short term gain. The British have no right to be here and our right to resist them is a matter for us to determine and not them.
We are constantly asked; what is your alternative? The answer depends on who is asking the question. To those who call us traitors we say; any alternative but yours. To those who call us anti democratic we say; let us negotiate without pre conditions. To those republicans who genuinely seek an alternative we say; let us construct one together. We must be clear that the Good Friday Agreement represents a significant defeat for republicanism. And in the face of this we need to be pragmatic and not reactionary. Recrimination is not an alternative. Working constructively together is. Along with other republican comrades the 32 County Sovereignty Movement has engaged in an initiative to forge a way forward from a unified republican position. The ideology behind it is the ideology of necessity. All republican banners are welcome because all republican banners are needed.
How we engage with the Irish people is as important as what we engage them on. From the outset the truth of what we say will be judged by the strength by which we say it. Eloquence and emotion are no substitutes to a unified voice. The politics of conflict resolution requires clarity to ensure that any resolution is just and democratic. Armed conflict is in existence because such a resolution has not been entered into. Neither republicans nor the British government can invoke the existence of armed conflict as an excuse not to engage in a process to find a final democratic resolution to the Anglo Irish conflict. We have to deal with reality as it is and not how we wish it to be.
Standing here in commemoration of 1916 let us invoke the clarity of the Proclamation as we now address the British government today. You must leave Ireland. If, as you say, you have no selfish, strategic or economic reasons for remaining in Ireland then there is no excuse for you not to leave. There is no problem in Ireland which demands your presence that the Irish people themselves cannot resolve. If you require a framework to allow you to disengage from our country we will construct one for you. But for this to happen you must go before the international community and renounce your claim to sovereignty over the Six Counties. A claim of sovereignty represents the bedrock of any strategic interest so let this be the basic test of your intentions.
We call on all republicans to realign ourselves around the securing of achievable aims. We have set forth a programme to rebuild the republican movement through political advancement. We have proposed that commemorating 1916 should be the annual barometer by which we measure our success especially in the run up to its centenary in 2016. Irish republicanism must be in a position on the occasion of this centenary to tell the Irish people that concrete political gains have been made toward making national reunification an unstoppable reality. The Proclamation is too important a document to condemn it to perpetual aspiration.
The Unity Initiative is the only realistic way forward. Armed struggle is a reality in our midst. We must address it for what it is, a symptom of the unwillingness of the British government to engage on the core cause of conflict, namely, its illegal claim to sovereignty over part of our country. For those who want armed struggle to cease they must come forward with proposals to address its cause. The politics of condemnation is a failed irrelevancy just as British micro Ministers are sitting in Stormont. The 32 County Sovereignty Movement have endeavoured since its formation to put such proposals into the public domain.
We sought a peaceful alternative through the auspices of the United Nations only to have that route disbarred to us when the US authorities, acting on influence from London and Dublin, banned our organisation from travelling there. But we are not deterred by this and efforts are underway to petition the Obama administration to reverse this policy. Because contrary to previous declarations made there, Ireland is not at peace.
We have sought dialogue with both governments, unionist and nationalist parties in an attempt to seek a peaceful way forward but these offers have been largely ignored. We thank all those who worked toward achieving this. And we say it again now; if you truly believe our position is so flawed come and tell us how, rather than grandstanding on media soap boxes. Our door remains open and we will not stop knocking on yours.
Comrades, the template of 1916 remains supremely relevant for us today. It was republican unity which drafted the Proclamation and allowed for the accommodation of its diverse views so magnificently. It was republican disunity which led to that fateful confusion on that day. They have given us the benefit of their foresight and the lessons of their errors. Let us leave here today all the wiser for both.Beir Bua.

End The Conflict, End British Rule In Ireland

If the conflict in Ireland is to end once and for all, so too must the illegal British claim to sovereignty over the Six Counties. That has been made clear in light of the violent events of recent days. That the so called peace process failed to openly address this central core issue of conflict is the reason for its failure now. Attempts to cocoon the problem in a puppet British Assembly arguing along sectarian lines are doomed to failure. From the outset of this process the British government have moved to defend their illegal sovereign claim to Irelands territory. This was evident when they made it an absolute pre-condition that the entry fee into negotiations was the acceptance of a partitionist outcome. Once republican leaders acquiesced to this British demand the republican project within that process was doomed. As it limped from crisis to crisis its British and unionist credentials began to assert themselves. What also emerged was the clear fact that rather than accept their abject defeat in negotiations with the British, republican leaders dug deeper into the morass whilst making outlandish and unsustainable claims about achieving Irish unity by certain dates to keep supporters on board. It was a classic British trap. This British strategy has now reached its pinnacle with a Provisional Sinn Fein leader standing at Stormont, under the British flag, as a minister of the British crown, calling IRA Volunteers ‘traitors’ for continuing to resist British occupation.

We note the ritual chorus of condemnation emanating from Leinster House. Far from reflecting a unity of purpose it represents a bankruptcy of will from that institution to pursue the objective of a Sovereign Irish Republic. From its inception Leinster House abandoned the Irish people in the Six Counties. It abandoned them further under the terms of the Good Friday Agreement. It evolved a politics which made it a slave to vested interests. It is economically on its knees because of financial and political corruption at the highest level. It has selectively spurned its own referenda results because it lacked the courage to represent those results to the political elite in Europe. It is no position to lecture to anyone on any matter of substance.

From its inception the 32 County Sovereignty Movement has endeavored to place the issue of Irish National Sovereignty at the heart of the political process via peaceful methods. We sought to raise our concerns by pursuing our case at the United Nations only to have that peaceful route disbarred to us when London and Dublin petitioned Washington to have our organization declared illegal in the US. We petitioned all the main parties with detailed submissions but were met with silence. We sought peace. We seek peace, but we recognise clearly that this can only be achieved if true parity is brought to a negotiations process. Britain’s claim to have ‘no selfish, strategic or economic reasons’ to remain in Ireland is laid bare when one sees its use of Irish soil to train and dispatch British soldiers to kill in foreign wars. The British are not neutral in Ireland, no more than they are in Afghanistan or Iraq. To allow them to claim this, which the Good Friday Agreement does, represents a massive abdication of duty and responsibility by all those supposed nationalists who support it. The recent loss of life as a result of military action is yet another tragedy in the continuing conflict in Ireland. What is required to resolve it is an end to British Parliamentary activity in Ireland so that the people of the island can come to their own democratic arrangements as to how we govern ourselves.

Abbiamo anche scoperti che persone dello Sinn Fein hanno cancellati gli scritti sui muri di Free Terry McCafferty, questa fa vedere quanto è cambiato lo Sinn Fein. Invece di sostenire i prigioniere vogliono nascondere la loro esisenza e il fatto che un ragazzo è stato arrestato senza motivi, poco prima di natale, il suo primo natale a casa in 6 anni. Ecco un video della protesta ieri a Belfast.

Il 32 County Sovereignty Movement ha emesso un comunicato datato 22 dicembre richiedendo l’immediata scarcerazione di Terry McCafferty, arrestato a 4 mesi dal suo rilascio senza un’accusa precisa.
Il 32CSM lo ha qualificato come una molestia nei confronti di un repubblicano e della sua famiglia, ipotizzando anche un atto di ripicca contro la liberazione dei Four Derry, avvenuta nei giorni scorsi, dopo che il processo nei loro confronti è miseramente controllato alla Special Criminal Court di Dublino.

E’ in programma una manifestazione per il 24 dicembre alle ore 15 a Dunville Park, Falls Road, Belfast.

The 32 County Sovereignty Movement call for the immediate release of North Belfast Republican Terry McCafferty who was returned to Maghaberry gaol last night just four weeks after being released having served half of a 12 year sentence for his part in Republican activity in Belfast.
Terry McCafferty was returning from a holiday in Spain with his family when he was arrested and told he was being returned to Maghaberry having had his license revoked by British secretary of state Paul Goggins.
The 32 County Sovereignty Movement view this action as blatant harassment of a Republican and his family just before Christmas. We have little doubt that there is no reason to revoke Terry’s license and we believe it may be a spiteful reaction to the release of the Derry 4 last Friday. It is quite clear that MI5 did not get the result they wanted in the Special Criminal Court in Dublin and they have ordered that Terry be imprisoned due to the fact that he has been recently released and his first Christmas with his family for years is approaching, It was designed to cause maximum misery to Republicans
The 32 County Sovereignty Movement call on all Republicans to unite to ensure that this spiteful action be overturned immediately.

Il processo contro i “Derry 4″, accusati di appartenenza ad un’organizzazione illegale, è crollato.

Al Tribunale Penale Speciale (Special Criminal Court) di Dublino il pubblico ministero ha annunciato di non voler procedere con l’istruzione del processo.

I quattro uomini, tutti di Derry, erano accusati di essere coinvolti nelle attività paramilitari repubblicane.

Giovedì la Corte aveva dichiarato che il loro arresto, avvenuto nella Contea di Donegal nel mese di marzo, è stato illegittimo.

Gli uomini - Gary Donnelly, 38 anni di Kildrun Gardens, Michael Gallagher, 28, di Sackville Court, Patrick John McDaid, 39, di Marlborough Street e Martin Francis O’Neill di Colmcille Court - si erano dichiarati tutti non colpevoli.

Ai tre giudici nel tribunale senza giuria era stato detto che i poliziotti avevano agito in base alle informazioni che prevedevano una dimostrazione di forza (Show of strength) per i mezzi di comunicazione da parte di un gruppo paramilitare.

50 I PRIGIONIERI REPUBBLICANI ANCORA IN CARCERE

Sono passati dieci anni da quando nel 1998 vennero aperte le porte del Maze ai detenuti repubblicani e lealisti nel rispetto di quanto stabilito dall’Accordo del Venerdì Santo (Good Friday Agreement n.d.r.).
Ad oggi sono circa 50 i detenuti ancora rinchiusi nelle carceri sia in Irlanda del Nord, che nella Repubblica di Irlanda.
31 si trovano in una sezione separta del carcere di Maghaberry. Quasi tutti appartenenti alla Continuity IRA ed alcuni affiliati alla Real IRA. L’unico di questi ad aver usufruito della scarcerazione fu John Brady originario di Strabane. Rilasciato nel 1998, venne arrestato nuovamente nel 2004 e successivamente scarcerato sulla base dell’inattendibilità della prova del DNA. Questo non ha significato la libertà per John brady, in quanto ora si trova a dover scontare un condanna all’ergastolo precedente.
Nel carcere di Portlaoise Co Laois, la stragrande maggioranza dei detenuti repubblicani sono affiliati al Real IRA, di cui un nome di spicco è Michael McKevitt.
Ci sono otto prigionieri appartenenti all’INLA a Portlaoise, la maggior parte in custodia preventiva in attesa di processo per accuse che vanno dal appartenenza all’organizzazione, al possesso di armi.
Infine sono 2 i prigionieri che si trovano al di fuori del territorio irlandese. Michael Campbell (36) originario di Dundalk, è stato arrestato in Lituania perchè sospettato di acquistare armi da fuoco ed esplosivi per la Real IRA.
Noel Maguire, condannato insieme ad altri quattro uomini per attentati della Real IRA a Londra e sta scontando una condanna di 22 anni in un carcere nel Cambridgeshire (Regno Unito).
All’inizio di questo mese il ministro della giustizia irlandese Dermot Ahern, rifiutato l’eenesima richiesta avanzata da Maguire per il trasferimento di Portlaoise, dicendo che egli non è riuscito a dimostrare di avere legami familiari nel Paese.

50 republicans still in prison - Dissident violence has to stop
History was made in 1998 when the gates of the Maze prison opened and republican and loyalist inmates were freed under the terms of the Good Friday Agreement.
But 10 years on from their early release – agreed as part of efforts to consign the Troubles to history – there are around 50 republican prisoners in jails north and south of the border.
Maghaberry jail has 31 inmates housed in its republican ‘separated’ unit.
The only one to have had his early release licence revoked is John Brady from Strabane.
Released from the Maze in 1998 after serving seven years for the murder of RUC reservist David Black in 1989, he was arrested in 2004 and charged with allegedly attempting to kill a part-time RIR soldier two years earlier.
The charge was later dropped by the Public Prosecution Service, which had been due to rely on controversial ‘low copy number’ DNA evidence but he remains in jail for the previous life sentence.
The majority of republican prisoners in Maghaberry are affiliated with Continuity IRA, with a handful of Real IRA prisoners also held on the wing.
Also in Maghaberry are two of the four men convicted of the Provisional IRA kidnapping of veteran republican Bobby Tohill in 2004.
Tommy Tolan and Gerard McCrory, both from west Belfast, handed themselves in to police in January 2007 after a period of being unlawfully at large.
In Portlaoise prison in Co Laois, the vast majority of republican inmates are affiliated to the Real IRA.
The most high-profile of these is Michael McKevitt, serving a 20-year jail term for directing terrorism. One of the founding members of the Real IRA, the veteran republican has since turned his back on his former associates.
There are eight alleged INLA prisoners in Portlaoise, the majority on remand awaiting trial for charges ranging from membership of the organisation to possession of weapons.
Armagh man Declan Duffy is among them, having been arrested earlier this year and charged with membership.
West Belfast man Gerard Mackin has also been in Portlaoise and is now on trial in Dublin’s Special Criminal Court charged with the murder of Eddie Burns in the city in March last year.
Two other republican prisoners are being held in jails outside of Ireland.
Dundalk man Michael Campbell (36) is being detained in Lithuania on suspicion of buying firearms and explosives for the Real IRA.
The last republican prisoner in England, Noel Maguire, was convicted along with four other men for a Real IRA bombing campaign and is serving 22 years in a prison in Cambridgeshire.
Earlier this month the Republic’s justice minister Dermot Ahern turned down a request by Maguire for transfer to Portlaoise, saying he had failed to prove he has family links in the jurisdiction.

IRPWA terrà una protesta all’ambasciata lituana a Ballsbridge, Dublino il 8th novembre alle 13 in sostegno di Michael Campbell un uomo irlandese tenuto correntemente in un prigione a Vilnius.
Michael è tenuto per i scorsi nove mesi senza nessun imputazioni contro di lui. La sua famiglia è stata negata di visitarlo dal procuratore principale là e quando un amico della famiglia è andato a Vilnius per uno dei suoi rinvii in carcere della corte lui è stato rimosso dalla corte all'insistenza del procuratore. Non è permesso contatto telefonico con casa e l'unico contatto che ha avuto con la sua famiglia è stato alcune lettere a casa. E' tenuta in una cella con altri tre prigionieri, nessuna di chi parlano affatto l'inglese e chi trascorrendo il loro tempo a fumare droghe. Michael deve mantenere la sua testa ad una finestra rotta per respirare l'aria fresca. L'unica toletta è un foro nella terra. L'alimento della prigione è non commestibile e le circostanze nell'ambito di cui sta "vivendo" sono terribili. L'unica gente a vedere Michael dal suo arresto è stato i suoi avvocati. La sua famiglia sta lavorando tranquillamente per provare a persuadere le autorità per permetterli di visitare ma inutilmente. Si sono messe in contatto con il IRPWA per chiederci di sollevare la consapevolezza del caso di Michael ed mettere in stato di allerta altri alle circostanze disumane nei quali vive Michael. Chiederemmo a tutti i membri del 32CSM ad assistere al nostro picchetto all'ambasciata lituana e di esercitare tanta pressione che possiamo sulle autorità in quel paese di curare quest’uomo irlandese con una certa parvenza di umanità e della dignità.

The IRPWA will be holding a protest at the Lithuanian Embassy Ballsbridge, Dublin on 1st November at 1.00pm in support of Irishman Michael Campbell currently held in a Vilnius Prison.
Michael has been held for the past nine months with no charges being brought against him. His family have been prevented from visiting him by the main prosecutor there and when a family friend went to Vilnius for one of his court remands he was removed from the court at the insistence of the prosecutor. He is not allowed phone-calls home and the only contact he has had with his family has been a few letters home. He is being held in a cell with three other prisoners, none of whom speak any English and who spend their time smoking drugs. Michael has to keep his head at a broken window to get fresh air. The only toilet is a hole in the ground. The prison food is inedible and the conditions under which he is being held are appalling. The only people to have seen Michael since his arrest have been his lawyers. His family have been working quietly to try to persuade the authorities to allow them to visit but to no avail. They contacted the IRPWA to ask us to raise awareness about his case and alert others to the inhumane conditions he is being held under. We would ask all members of 32CSM cumainn to attend our picket at the Lithuanian Embassy and exert as much pressure as we can on the authorities in that country to treat this Irishman with some semblance of humanity and dignity.

To whom it may concern,

I am writing today to address an appalling and unwarranted abuse of
human rights in one of your prisons, to an Irish man who has been held
there by your government on no charges for the past nine months.

I understand that Michael Campbell is being held with no contact
whatsoever with any of his family and loved ones, other than a few
letter home. In this age where phone use is ubiquitous, it seems
inhumane to not at least allow phone contact in the past nine months.
Furthermore, it is cruel to not allow a family visit over nine entire
months. I am aware that a family member who traveled a great distance
to be at one of Michael's court appearances was removed from the court room and not allowed see Michael.

To continue, I am alarmed to learn of the conditions in Michael's
jail cell. I am told he is being held in a cell with three others; none
of whom speak English. These prisoners spend their day smoking drugs,
and Michael is forced to strain his head at a broken window to get
fresh air. He is not allowed access to proper sanitation and is using
an open hole in the ground. His food is inedible. I call these
conditions appalling.

Please see that this situation, perhaps until now unknown to you,
receives your immediate attention. At the very least, please act to
ensure Michael receives a long-overdue visit with his family.

(AGI) - Roma, 17 ott. - Il ministro della Giustizia Angelino Alfano ha ricevuto in via Arenula il ministro della Giustizia irlandese Dermot Ahern, che aveva chiesto un incontro a Roma con il Guardasigilli per conoscere piu’ da vicino la realta’ carceraria dell’Italia e le politiche in materia. A renderlo noto e’ l’ufficio stampa del dicastero di via Arenula Nel corso di un lungo e cordiale colloquio, il ministro Alfano ha illustrato priorita’ e peculiarita’ dell’amministrazione penitenziaria italiana. Il Guardasigilli - conclude la nota dell’ufficio stampa - ha molto apprezzato il vivo interesse mostrato da uno Stato di antica tradizione democratica, come l’Irlanda, nei confronti dell’esperienza italiana nella complessa gestione del mondo carcerario. Squilla il telefono. Iniziano ad arrivare sms. La notizia è confermata: il prigioniero repubblicano irlandese Aidan Hulme ha avuto le prime cure mediche dopo 237 giorni e soprattutto dopo che nelle ultime settimane si era temuto il peggio. Un piede che rischiava la cancrena, un corpo umano che non riusciva più a sostenere i tanti medicinali presi quotidianamente. E tutto questo avveniva nel silenzio di media irlandesi ed europei. Con la politica che rimaneva alla finestra facendo finta nulla, come se i militanti della causa repubblicana, quelli che ancora non si sono rassegnati a veder sventolare la Union jack a Belfast e Derry, fossero cittadini di serie inferiore.
Quando la scorsa settimana abbiamo conosciuto il portavoce italiano del movimento 32Csm (County Sovereignity Movement) Saoirse Harte, avevamo capito che la situazione era grave e che, soprattutto, nessuno nel mondo del politicamente corretto si sarebbe mosso. C’era bisogno di fare tutto il possibile per Aidan Hulme. Lo dovevamo a questo ragazzo, alla sua famiglia, ai suoi compagni di lotta, ma soprattutto al popolo e alla causa irlandese. Un interesse, una comunità di intenti che ha radici nel passato e che non poteva non trovare la nostra vicinanza anche oggi. Così, il nostro quotidiano si è messo subito a disposizione, facendo tutto il possibile: una pagina di intervista a Saoirse Harte e poi una campagna quotidiana in prima pagina in cui si ricordava da quanti giorni Aidan era senza cure e rischiava la vita nel carcere di Portlaoise, badate bene, non nel Regno unito, ma in Irlanda.
Quando abbiamo saputo della vittoria, abbiamo gioito. Quando abbiamo scoperto che il passo in avanti è stato fatto anche per la mobilitazione internazionale, abbiamo pensato che non servono grandi mezzi per incidere sulla realtà. Quando, infine, il movimento repubblicano ci ha ringraziato ufficialmente, l’emozione si è fatta largo.
Così, la mobilitazione umanitaria internazionale ha vinto. Aidan, che da mesi aspettava urgenti cure mediche, è stato finalmente visitato da uno specialista. E potrà anche essere portato in una struttura esterna al penitenziario.
L'agenzia di stampa Inedita, durante la scorsa settimana, aveva portato la notizia in Italia e aveva interpellato l'ambasciata irlandese. Martedì Inedita ha ricevuto una mail dall'ufficio stampa della rappresentanza in Italia di Dublino. “L'addetto stampa – spiegavano - ha ricevuto la risposta dall'Irish Prisoner Service, i quali riferiscono che il prigioniero in questione ha ricevuto tutte le cure mediche necessarie ed è anche stato portato in visita ad un ospedale esterno”. Dall'Irlanda, invece, confermavano le gravi condizioni di Aidan. Poi la buona notizia, giunta in Italia mercoledì sera.
“L'Irpwa (Irish republican prisoners welfare association) – si legge in un comunicato del portavoce del gruppo, Marian Price - accoglie con favore gli ultimi sviluppi della campagna per Aidan Hulme, ringraziando, a nome dei prigionieri di guerra, tutti quelli che si sono mobilitati. Il direttore del penitenziario di Portlaoise si è accordato con i prigionieri e ha dato il permesso ad Aidan di essere visitato anche all'esterno”. Inoltre è stato assicurato che “entro la fine del mese sarà pianificato e sviluppato un programma per dare le cure necessarie al prigioniero, permettendo così un controllo continuo della sua salute”. Così da oggi in poi il prigioniero irlandese Hulme dovrebbe ricevere (e il condizionale in un caso del genere è purtroppo d'obbligo) le necessarie cure mediche. Adesso però i due governi d'Irlanda dovrebbero imparare a non trattare come cittadini di “serie b” i militanti della causa repubblicana, per non dover mai più temere per la sorta di alcun prigioniero o peggio piangere ragazzi come Kevin Murray, lasciato a morire in carcere senza alcuna cura specialistica. Saoirse Harte, dall’Italia, ha poi voluto “ringraziare i media italiani che si sono mobilitati per la causa di Aidan Hulme, in particolare il quotidiano Rinascita e l'agenzia di stampa Inedita”.
Infine, abbiamo saputo che il giovane repubblicano detenuto è molto riconoscente per il supporto arrivato anche dall’Italia. Ora ci aspetta per conoscerci in una visita nel penitenziario. E noi non mancheremo.

La mobilitazione umanitaria internazionale alla fine ha vinto. Il prigioniero repubblicano irlandese Aidan Hulme, detenuto nel carcere di Portlaoise, che da mesi aspettava urgenti cure mediche, è stato finalmente visitato da uno specialista. E potrà anche essere portato in una struttura esterna al penitenziario.
L'agenzia di stampa Inedita, durante la scorsa settimana, aveva portato la notizia in Italia, che poi era stata ripresa dal quotidiano nazionale Rinascita con un'intervista al portavoce italiano del movimento 32Csm (County sovereignity movement), Saoirse Harte. Inoltre era stata subito interpellata l'ambasciata irlandese. Martedì Inedita ha ricevuto una mail dall'ufficio stampa della rappresentanza in Italia di Dublino. “L'addetto stampa – spiegavano - ha ricevuto la risposta dall'Irish Prisoner Service, i quali riferiscono che il prigioniero in questione ha ricevuto tutte le cure mediche necessarie ed è anche stato portato in visita ad un ospedale esterno”. Ora, gli accordi sono che il personale dell'ospedale visiterà Aidan per “pulire le superfici infettate del suo piede” e per “impedire un'ulteriore diffusione dell'infezione”. Inoltre è stato assicurato che entro la fine del mese sarà pianificato e sviluppato un programma per dare le cure necessarie al prigioniero, permettendo così un controllo continuo della sua salute.
“L'Irpwa a nome dei Pow (Prigionieri di guerra) vuole ringraziare le persone che si sono mosse per sostenere Aidan – ha detto la responsabile dell'associazione dei prigionieri repubblicani, Marian Price - Vorremmo estendere il ringraziamento a quelle organizzazioni repubblicane che hanno dato il proprio supporto per assicurare ad Aidan un intervento medico immediato. Aidan è molto riconoscente per tutto il supporto che ha ricevuto ed estende il suo apprezzamento sincero a tutti le persone che si sono mobilitate”.
Inedita ha inoltre raccolto le dichiarazioni di Saoirse Harte, il portavoce italiano del 32Csm, che ha voluto “ringraziare i media italiani che si sono mobilitati per la causa di Aidan Hulme, in particolare il quotidiano Rinascita e l'agenzia di stampa Inedita”.
Così da oggi in poi il prigioniero irlandese Hulme dovrebbe ricevere (e il condizionale in un caso del genere è purtroppo d'obbligo) le necessarie cure mediche. RISULTATO POSITIVO ALLA CAMPAGNA DI AIDAN HULME

L’IRPWA accoglie favorevolmente gli ultimi sviluppi nella campagna di Aidan Hulme per cui il governatore della prigione di Portlaoise si è accordato con i prigionieri ed Aidan perché l’OC ed l’Adjutant abbiano il permesso di accompagnare Aidan quando verrà visitato da un medico o dal governatore.

Oggi (15/10/08) tale visita è avvenuta ed è stato confermato che il piede dell'Aidan non presenta cancrena, ma piuttosto sintomi che sono il risultato di un'infezione severa che Aidan ora sta curando.

Il personale dall'ospedale ora visiterà Aidan per pulire le aree infette del suo piede e per rivedere le terapie al fine di impedire l’ulteriore diffusione dell'infezione.

Una rassicurazione inoltre è data dal fatto che le condizioni di Aidan verranno valutate da uno specialista prima del fine mese che implementerà e pianificherà il programma di cure . Ciò lascerà spazia ad un adeguato pacchetto di terapie.

Questo positivo e comune accordo sul benessere di Aidan assicurerà tempestività ad eventuale un intervento nel caso di peggioramento delle condizioni e permetterà un controllo continuo del suo stato di salute.

Gli effetti negativi del farmaco inoltre saranno controllati molto attentamente e con il permesso di Aidan i dosaggi potranno essere ridotti secondo i suoi diversi bisogni in qualunque momento.

L’IRPWA a nome dei POW vuole ringraziare le persone che si sono mobilitate per sostenere Aidan nel momento del bisogno ed a coloro che ha trasmesso i saluti.

Vorremmo estendere questo grazie ad altre organizzazioni repubblicane che hanno dato il loro supporto e consigli per assicurare che Aidan ricevesse l'intervento specialistico immediato.

Aidan è effettivamente molto riconoscente per tutto il supporto che ha ricevuto ed estende il suo apprezzamento sincero a tutti i coinvolti.

POSITIVE OUTCOME TO AIDAN HULME CAMPAIGN

The Irish Republican Prisoners Welfare Association (IRPWA)welcome the latest development in the Aidan Hulme campaign whereby the Prison Governor in Portlaoise Gaol has agreed with the prisoners and Aidan that the OC and Adjutant will be allowed access to accompany Aidan when he is visited by a doctor or when visited by the Governor.

Today (15/10/08) such a visit took place and it is confirmed that gangrene is not present in Aidan’s foot rather the symptoms are a result of a severe infection for which Aidan is now being treated.

Staff from the hospital will now visit Aidan to clean the infected areas of his foot and renew dressings to prevent further spread of infection.

An assurance is also given that Aidan will have a consultant assessment before the end of the month and an agreed care plan is being implemented and developed. This will allow for a proper consultant led care management package.

This positive and jointly agreed approach to Aidan’s welfare will ensure early intervention in the event of deterioration and will allow for continuous monitoring of his condition.

The negative effects of the medication will also be closely monitored and with Aidan’s agreement can be reduced depending on his individual needs at any given time.

The IRPWA on behalf of the POW’s would like at this time to thank most sincerely the many people who moved to support Aidan in his time of need and to those who sent greetings.

We would like to extend this thanks to other republican organisations who pledged their support and advice to ensure that Aidan received immediate professional intervention.

Polizia in irlanda nel nord minacciano un bimbo di 7 sett

La polizia hanno minacciato un bambino di 7 settimane. La madre, moglie di Gary Donnelly un ragazzo arrestato a marzo messo in galera senza prove, senza processo e senza possiblità di uscire finche la polizia decide, ha raccontato come la polizia ha minacciato lei e il figlio in settimana. Ha raccontato come mentre stava uscendo di un negozio con il figlio e sua padre, che e venuta a vivere con lei dopo la nascità del piccolo, la polizia gli han fermati e minacciato di
togliere il figlio del passeggino e di perquisire il bimbo.

"E' successo giovedi" dici Orla Connolly "Il mio padre e arrivato da dublino per aiutarmi con il bambino dopo che è nato e stavamo uscendo di un negozio quando la polizia si è avvicinato"

"Uno dei poliziotti che c'era era coinvolto in un processo legale dove io e Gary erano fermati (dalla polizia) e poi arrestati per un cosiddetto aggressione. Quando il caso e arrivato in tribunale il giudice era molto critica della polizia e ha scartato il caso."

"Questo poliziotto mi si è avvicinato e altri hanno preso il mio padre da parte per perquisirlo. Ha detto che mi stava per perquisire e io gli ho detto che doveva essere presente un ufficiale femminile se mi voleva perquisire. Hanno chiesto via radio per una and mentre aspettavamo lui ha indicato il mio figlio, Fintan Donnelly,che ancora e sotto controllo medico in ospedale, e ha detto che stava per perquisirlo. Io ho detto che in nessun modo lo poteva fare ma lui insisteva che lo stava per perquisirlo."

"A quel punto e arrivata un poliziotta femminile e mi hanno perquisito. Ho detto a una ragazza che conosco di chiamare il mio avvocato e a quel punto la polizia si sono calmati e andati via."

Lei dice: "Sembra che abbiamo un gran cooperazione 'cross border' (sia nord che sud) perche poche mese fa la polizia a Dublino mi hanno fermati e mi hanno attaccato. Mi hanno minacciato di rompere il mio braccio e significante le referenze da loro a Gary quando la polizia a Derry hanno rotto il suo braccio."

"Tutte le famiglie della Derry 4 (4 ragazzi arrestati e messi in galera senza prove ne processo a marzo quest'anno sic) sono sottomesso a molestie con le macchine della polizia fuori alle loro case ed è arrivato al punto che non posso manco andare a fare shopping che corro il rischio di essere fermato e molestata. Ben due volte hanno portato io e Gary in tribunale e entrambe volte i casi son stati scartati e il giudice ha criticato la polizia. Ma sembra che loro pensano che possono farla franca con le molestie. Ho fatto un reclamo con l'Ombudsman (gruppo che controllano la polizia sic) ma mi hanno detto che non potevano far niente."

"Sto chiedendo che le persone come Martina Anderson e Martin Connolly chi entrambe hanno posto su Police Boards (gruppo di politici che controllano la polizia sic) ci dicono perche la PSNI hanno il permesso di continuare la loro campagna di molestie contro le persone ordinari in questa città."

"Ho invitata i politici locali in tribunale con me l'ultima volta ma nessuno di loro è venuta. E' questo cio che loro chiamano 'aiuto per le persone locale'?"

Il padre di Orla ha detto che ciò che è stato sottomesso gli ha ricordato storie della Germania in tempi nazista.

Quando abbiamo contattato la PSNI ci hanno detto che non commentano su casi individuale ma se qualcuno aveva un reclamo dovevano contattare l'ufficio del Police Ombudsman

[Agenzia Inedita] Non cambiano le condizioni del prigioniero repubblicano Aidan Hulme, detenuto nel carcere irlandese di Portlaoise e a rischio amputazione del piede. Secondo l'associazione dei prigionieri irlandesi, la direzione del carcere non permette ad Aidan di farsi visitare da uno specialista esterno alla struttura carceraria. Il movimento 32Csm in Italia, intanto, ha interpellato Amnesty International, il ministero di Giustizia di Dublino e ha chiesto a tutti di "spedire un biglietto di auguri a Aidan per dirgli che il nostro pensiero è con lui e che stiamo lavorando per porre fine alla sua sofferenza. A Belfast la Resistenza continua
Irlanda - A colloquio con Saoirse Harte, portavoce in Italia del movimento 32Csm, i repubblicani che hanno rifiutato la svendita a Londra

Repressione, arresti, settarismo, discriminazione. Parole che, a sentire i quotidiani embedded di mezzo mondo, non sarebbero altro che un ricordo per l'Irlanda del nord e soprattutto per i nazionalisti irlandesi. Ancor di più si dovrebbe trattare di ricordi lontani per la gente di Dublino e della Repubblica d'Irlanda. Purtroppo però non è così. La tensione è all'ordine del giorno e l'Irlanda, sia quella del nord sia quella del sud, è tutto tranne che pacificata. Non c'è solo lo Sinn Fein nell'Isola Verde. Non c'è solo la pace “patinata” del governo di Stormont firmata con gli inglesi. Ci sono anche movimenti e partiti politici che non ancora oggi lottano per l'indipendenza e l'unità irlandese, senza più la presenza di Londra.
Proprio in queste ore in Irlanda si sta vivendo un momento drammatico. Un prigioniero repubblicano, detenuto in un carcere di Dublino, sta rischiando l'amputazione di un piede e forse anche peggio solo perché le autorità irlandesi gli negano la possibilità di farsi visitare e aiutare da un esperto in una struttura esterna. Di questa storia e del movimento repubblicano ne abbiamo voluto parlare con Saoirse Harte, il portavoce in Italia del movimento 32 County Sovereignty Movement (32Csm, il movimento per la sovranità delle 32 contee irlandesi unite).

D. Per prima cosa parliamo di Aidan Hulme, il prigioniero irlandese che in questo momento in pericolo di vita nella prigione di Portlaoise.

R. Aidan è stato arrestato e incarcerato in Inghilterra nel 2003 per la bomba alla Bbc di Londra nel marzo 2001 insieme ad altri due ragazzi. Va subito detto che non ci sono prove dirette sulla sua colpevolezza, ma al massimo è stato dimostrata solo l'appartenenza a un gruppo politico. A quel punto ci siamo subito mobilitati con manifestazioni e proteste per riportare i tre ragazzi in Irlanda, visto che come cittadini europei hanno il diritto di essere spostati nel carcere più vicino a casa per facilitare le visite e i colloqui con i familiari. Dei tre, solo Aidan e un altro sono riusciti a tornare sull'Isola Verde nel 2006.

D. Aidan però stava già male quando era stato portato in carcere nel Regno Unito?

R. Sì, aveva fatto un brutto incidente in moto prima di essere arrestato e nel carcere inglese gli è stato negato un aiuto medico. E proprio per questo nel 2004 abbiamo protestato contro la negligenza dei medici inglesi. Quel che è peggio è che, una volta tornato in Irlanda, anche qui non lo hanno aiutato in alcun modo.

D. Quando si è aggrava la situazione?

R. A febbraio di quest'anno la vicenda è diventata sempre più allarmante. Durante una visita medica, hanno trovato le dita del piede della gamba malata di Aidan che erano diventate nere e si teme si tratti di cancrena. Il medico ha chiesto al direttore della prigione di far visitare Aidan da uno specialista. Il direttore ha fatto sapere che il caso avrebbe avuto la massima priorità, ma ancora nessun provvedimento è stato preso. Aidan sta assumendo attualmente ventuno pillole al giorno per il dolore e si è reso necessario anche l’utilizzo di morfina. Il suo colorito è diventato giallognolo, sintomo di un danno al fegato come conseguenza di un massiccio dosaggio dei farmaci. Attualmente è costretto a letto ventiquattro ore al giorno, 7 giorni alla settimana.

D. E voi cosa avete organizzato?

R. Oltre ad alcune manifestazioni, abbiamo indirizzato una petizione al ministro della Giustizia Dermot Ahern per un suo intervento immediato. Ho parlato personalmente con il ministro che però ha tirato fuori banali scuse. E nulla è stato fatto.

D. Questa assurda situazione sembra molto simile al trattamento che ha subito Kevin Murray.

R. Esattamente. Kevin era un prigioniero dello stesso penitenziario arrestato per motivi politici. Aveva continui mal di testa, non stava bene, chiedeva di un medico e gli veniva sistematicamente negato. Quando gli è stato permesso di vedere un medico, è stato portato in un ospedale esterno per farlo morire perché gli è stato diagnosticato un tumore al cervello. Forse la sua fine era segnata, ma doveva avere le giuste cure mediche. Era il 2001. Nessuno ha pagato per quel fatto. Dopo sette anni ci troviamo davanti a una situazione molto simile, Aidan rischia la vita e sembra che a nessuno importi nulla. I repubblicani vengono trattati come cittadini di serie B dal governo irlandese.

D. Parlaci del vostro movimento il 32Csm.

R. Non siamo un partito politico, ma un movimento perché non ci presentiamo alle elezioni, non riconoscendolo come valide e ufficiali. Lottiamo per un'Irlanda che sia libera e sovrana. I nostri obiettivi sono la sovranità nazionale irlandese, l'unità e la promozione dell'ideale rivoluzionario del repubblicanismo. Inoltre chiediamo l'immediato rilascio di tutti i prigionieri irlandesi nel mondo (sono presenti soprattutto negli Usa e in Inghilterra). Negli Stati uniti per esempio c'è un prigioniero che aspetta da 25 anni di ritornare a casa.

D. Quando è nato il vostro movimento?

R. La maggior parte dei nostri membri storici erano all'interno dello Sinn Fein in un comitato che si chiamava 32Csc. Nel 1997, sugli accordi di pace con gli inglesi, il partito si è spaccato. E il 7 dicembre di quell'anno si è tenuta una riunione degli attivisti che hanno lasciato il partito di Gerry Adams a causa della svendita all'Inghilterra per il trattato con gli inglesi. L'anno dopo, nel '98, abbiamo presentato un ricorso legale all'Onu per non riconoscere le elezioni del Nord, visto che gli inglesi non avevano alcun diritto di organizzarle.

D. Il 32Csm è presente in tutta l'Isola Verde?

R. Sì, il movimento è presente in tutta l'Irlanda con attivisti e militanza. Siamo anche in Inghilterra e in Italia come gruppi di pressione internazionale. Oltre alla causa repubblicana, lavoriamo molto nel sociale e ci battiamo contro la droga e contro gli spacciatori. Ovviamente ci siamo anche battuti contro la costituzione europea.

D. Qual è la situazione di tutti i giorni?

R. Nel Nord come nel Sud è una situazione molto dura. Al Nord la polizia continua a usare gli stessi metodi e con il governo biconfessionale non è cambiato proprio nulla. Proprio per questo in molti stanno abbandonando lo Sinn Fein che è sempre più lontano dalla gente. I Repubblicani si stanno allontanando dallo Sinn Fein che sembra solo interessato a esser parte di un governo straniero in Irlanda. C’è ancora l’ “internment by remand” cioè quando gli attivisti repubblicani vengono arrestati e messi in galera per molto tempo senza alcuna prova tranne quella delle parola della polizia. Tutto questo al momento è un grave pericolo per noi. Per non parlare poi dell’uso dello Special Criminal Court, un tribunale che è contro i diritti umani come ribadito dall’Unione europea e per il quale il governo irlandese viene multato €10.000 per ogni seduta. Va detto che il governo irlandese paga questa cifra in anticipo, strano pagare una multa in anticipo vero?

D. Infine, avete anche un raggruppamento di tutte le posizioni radicali per l'indipendenza?

R. Special on Ireland – An interview with Saoirse Harte, spokesperson
in Italy for the 32CSM, the Republicans who refused the sell-out to
London

Repression, arrests, sectarianism, discrimination. Words that,
hearing them daily embedded in half the world, would bring back nothing
other than a memory of The Occupied Six and above all of Irish
nationalists. Even more it would mean far memories for people of Dublin
and the Republic of Ireland. Unfortunately it is not like that. Tension
is on the agenda and Ireland, both North and South, is everything but
at peace. There isn’t only Sinn Fein in the Green Island. There isn’t
only “the patinated” peace of the Stormont government signed with the
English. There are still political movements and parties that still
fight for independence and the Irish unity, without an English
presence.

Ireland is living a dramatic moment. A Republican prisoner, in
Portlaoise Gaol, is risking the amputation of a foot and perhaps even
worse because the Irish authorities deny him the possibility of
visiting and help from medical expert in an external structure. We
talked to Saoirse Harte, the spokesperson in Italy of the 32 County
Sovereignty Movement about this and other issues.

Q. First of all let’s talk about Aidan Hulme, the Irish prisoner who in this moment in grave danger in Portlaoise Gaol.

A. Aidan was arrested and imprisoned in England in 2003 for the
London BBC bomb in March 2001 with two other people. It should be
pointed out that there was no direct evidence to link Aidan to the bomb
but a series of suggestive evidence linking them to a political group.
At that point we mobilized with protests and petitions to have these
three people repatriated to Ireland, inasmuch as European citizens they
have the right of being moved to a gaol closer to home in order to
facilitate the family visits. Of the three, only Aidan and his brother
were repatriated in 2006.

Q. Was Aidan already injured when he was incarcerated in the UK?

A. Yes, Aidan had a horrible motorbike accident before being
arrested and was undergoing treatment when incarcerated. When he was
sent to Gaol in England he was denied medical Treatment and his
situation got worse. Then in 2004 we protested against the negligence
of the English doctors. What’s worse is that once he was repatriated he
was still denied treatment!

Q. When did the situation get to be alarming?

A. In February of this year the situation became more and more
alarming. During a recent medical visit, the doctor found that Aidan’s
toes had turned black and the doctor fears gangrene. The doctor has
asked the Prison Governor to let Aidan see a specialist. The director
said that he Aidan’s case would have had the maximum priority, but
still no provision has been taken. Aidan is currently taking twenty-one
pills a day for the pain and the use of morphine patches has become
necessary. His skin has turned yellow which indicates liver damage due
to all the medication that he is taking. Currently Aidan is bedridden
24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Q. What has been organized?

A. Other than protests, we have started a letter writing petition
to the Justice Minister Dermot Ahern for immediate action. I have
spoken personally with the Minister’s office but have been fobbed off
with the most banal of excuses as have many others. And no progress has
been made.

Q. This absurd situation is very similar to what happened to Kevin Murray, isn’t it?

A. Exactly. Kevin was a prisoner in the same Gaol arrested for
political reasons. He had continuing headaches, he was not well, he
asked for a doctor and he was systematically denied his right to
medical treatment. When he was finally allowed to see a doctor, the
only thing left to do for him was to send him to a hospice to die
because of a massive brain tumour. Maybe the outcome would have been
the same, but he had the right to medical treatment. That was 2001.
Nobody has been brought to justice for Kevin’s death. After seven years
we find ourselves front of a very similar situation, Aidan is risking
his life and it seems that no one cares. Republicans are treated like
second class citizens by the Irish government.

Q. Tell us about you movement, the 32CSM

A. We are not a political party, but a movement because we do not
present ourselves for elections; we do not recognise them as valid and
official. We fight for a Free Sovereign Ireland. Our objectives are
National Irish Sovereignty, Republican unity and the promotion of the
revolutionary ideals of Republicanism. We also demand the immediate and
unconditional release for all Irish political prisoners in the world.
In the United States as an example there is a prisoner who awaits trail
25 years after his ‘offence’, not being an American citizen and being a
Republican.

Q. When was your movement founded?

A. Most of our founding members came from within Sinn Fein and
within Sinn Fein there was a committee called the 32 County Sovereignty
Committee. In 1997, with the peace talks with the English, the party
split. On the 7th December of that year there was a meeting of the
activists who had left Sinn Fein because of their sell-out to England.
For an English Treaty. And that night the 32CSM was founded. The year
after, in 1998, we have sent a legal submission to the UN asking them
not to recognise the GFA Referendum, inasmuch as English did not have
the right to organize it and it also questioned the British Soverenity
in Ireland.

Q. Is the 32CSM a 32 County Movement?

A. Yes, the movement is present in all the 32 counties of Ireland
with activists. We are also in England and Italy as international lobby
groups. Other than representing the republican cause, we are very
active in Social work and work against drugs in our communities and
anti-social behaviour as it has no place in society. Obviously also we
are also busy working against the Lisbon Treaty.

Q. What is the current situation in Ireland?

A. North and South it’s a difficult situation. In the North the
police continue to use the same methods and with a biconfessional
government and nothing has changed. For this reason many people are
leaving Sinn Fein, which is always further away from its’ grassroots.
Republicans are furthering themselves from Sinn Fein who seem to be
more interested in being part of a foreign government in Ireland. There
is also internment by remand where republican activists are arrested
and put in gaol for long periods of time with no evidence against them
other than the fact they are Republicans and the word of a police
officer this is a serious danger for all Republicans. We also have the
use of the Special Criminal Court, a court which is in contravention of
Human Rights as set out by the EU and for every seating is fined around
€10,000 by Brussels. It should be noted that the Irish government pays
this fine in advance, doesn’t it seem strange to you to pay a fine in
advance?

Q. Last question. Is there any position with other Pro Independence groups in Ireland?

A. Yes, there is the Republican Network for Unity, a grouping where
ex POWs are present, IRSP (Irish Republican Socialist Party) and other
independent republicans. In other words, unity is open to all those who
have not accepted the sell-out to the English and that continue to
resist.

Allarmante preoccupazione è stata espressa per la condizioni di salute del prigioniero repubblicano Aidan Hulme, detenuto nella prigione di Portlaoise. A seguito di una visita medica è stato osservato che le dita del piede della gamba malata di Aidan sono diventate nere e si teme si tratti di cancrena. Il medico ha trasmesso al governatore della prigione la richiesta che Aidan possa essere visitato da uno specialista in questo campo. Il governatore ha dichiarato che il caso di Aidan avrebbe avuto la massima priorità, tuttavia nessun provvedimento decisivo è stato preso.

Aidan sta assumendo attualmente ventuno pillole al giorno per il dolore e si è reso necessario l’utilizzo di morfina per alleviare il dolore. Il suo colorito è diventato giallognolo il chè è sintomo di un danno al fegato come conseguenza di un massiccio dosaggio dei farmaci. Attualmente è costretto a letto ventiquattro ore al giorno, 7 giorni alla settimana.
L'Irish Republican Prisoners Welfare Association richiede il supporto di tutti i republicani e dei gruppi socialisti per una decisa campagna al fine di assicurare le dovute cure a Aidan Hulme.
Sarà aperta una petizione indirizzata al ministro Dermot Ahern per un suo intervento immediato cosicchè Aidan Hulme possa ricevere appropriate cure mediche in un’appropriata struttura.

I am writing with grave concerns for the health and welfare of Aidan Hulme, a Republican political prisoner at Portlaoise Prison.

Since being repatriated to Portlaoise in 2006, Aidan has continued to suffer great pain from injuries sustained over six years ago before being interned in Britain. It was his great hope, as mine, that his repatriation to Ireland would finally result in the proper medical care he so badly needs.

Aidan Hulme desperately needs surgery, not more pills. Currently he is taking 21 tablets for pain per day and Morphine patches once every 2 days. He has made numerous complaints and requests for surgical attention to the Portlaoise prison governor and to the medical officer, but has only received more pain pills in response.

He is in severe pain. In bed and therefore closed in his cell 24 hours a day 7 days a week. His skin has turned yellow which may indicate liver damage as a result of so much medication.

You will recall, as I do, the 2001 death of another Republican prisoner, Kevin Murray, who had also made numerous complaints and requests for medical attention. Like Aidan, all that Kevin Murray received from Portlaoise doctors were tablets. When the massive brain tumor was finally discovered, it was far too late to operate, and Kevin was released to hospice to die.

Please allow Aidan Hulme the simple operation that he requires. Under international Human Rights laws including the Geneva Convention for the Treatment of Prisoners of War; the European Convention for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment; and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights; Aidan Hulme is entitled to the same comforts of any Irish citizen while in your care and his treatment is a priority and should be treated as such.

Tattiche Intimidatorie Del PSNI Contro un Ex OC

John Connolly, 32 di Newtownbutler ha dichiarato al Fermanagh Herald di essere da qualche tempo bersaglio di atti intimidatori da parte del PSNI, soprattutto nelle aree di Lisnaskea e Enniskillen. Atti nei suoi confronti, ma ancor più grave nei confronti di chi capiti si trovi con lui.
L’ex OC (Officer Commanding n.d.r.) del carcere di Maghaberry (a Lisburn n.d.r.), dove ha scontato una pena detentiva di 7 anni, ha dichiarato come al verificarsi di un attacco repubblicano nella zona, le attenzioni vengano rifersate tutte su di lui.
L’ultimo fatto è avvenuto nella notte di mercoledì 17 settembre quando, imboccando la Holyhill Road nei pressi di Enniskillen si è accorto di essere seguito da un’auto che gli puntava le luce abbaglianti. Temendo si trattasse di lealisti ha proseguito sino a trovarsi attorniato da altre 2 auto. Era la polizia. Gli agenti hanno puntato le armi attraverso i finestrini dell’auto suscitando una reazione isterica di una ragazza di 17 anni, figlia della proprietaria dell’auto in quel frangente guidata da John Connolly.
Ne è seguita la perquisizione sia dell’ex OC, che della ragazza (effettuata da un agente donna) che ne ha riportato un grave shock.
Nel mentre, un ufficiale di polizia ha dichiarato ‘non succede spesso di fermare il capo’.
John Connolly, pur pensado si intedesse fare riferimento alla sua carica di OC ricoperta tra le mura di Maghaberry, ha pretesto di mettere a verbale “Sono stato il capo, ma non ora. Sto cercando di andare avanti con la mia vita, e non voglio dover subire queste molestie “. Ha altresì dichiarato che se il PSNI avesse fatto uso delle sirene si sarebbe fermato, perchè è invece spesso capitato che simili circostanze si siano trasformate in meri attentati.
Il Fermanagh Herald per dover di cronaca ha chiesto spiegazioni al PSNI, il cui portavoce ha placidamente dichiarato di come si sia trattato di un semplice “Stop & search”, all’interno di operazioni previste per la notte di mercoledì in Enniskillen. L’ufficiale ha altresì invitato a chiunque si fosse sentito leso da azioni inadeguate perpetrate da agenti del PSNI, ad inoltrare degli esposti per permettere l’esatta valutazione degli accadimenti.

Unfair tactics by PSNI says former OC

A former officer commanding IRA prisoners in Maghaberry claimed this week that the PSNI were deliberately targeting him, and those with him, at road stops, mainly in the Lisnaskea area but also in Enniskillen.
John Connolly (32) from Newtownbutler served a seven-year sentence from 2000-’07 after being convicted of possessing a barrack buster bomb with intent to kill members of the security forces. He was released in November, 2007 but, now, he claims that every time there is a dissident Republican attack, he comes in for special attention.
His latest run-in with the PSNI, who were wearing body armour and heavily armed, occurred near Enniskillen on Wednesday night, 17th September as he was driving a car belonging to a female friend. The woman’s 17-year old daughter was a front-seat passenger.
The female owner of the car told the ‘Herald’ she is concerned that her daughter was bodily searched despite her name and address having been radioed through to Enniskillen Police Station.
Mr Connolly said he was followed out of town by an unmarked car which then flashed its lights as he headed up Holyhill Road. Fearing it was Loyalists, he drive on until he was eventually hemmed in by two more vehicles.
“It was the Police. They ordered me out of the car. They were pointing their weapons in through the window. My passenger was in hysterics. I calmed her down and told her, ‘it’s me they’re looking to search’.
“The made my put my arms in the air and then on the car roof and they kicked my legs apart. I was then asked by one officer if I had anything sharp that might endanger either him or his colleagues and, when I said No I was asked, ‘where’s the rocket launcher?’ He then went through the whole list, claymore mines, AK 47’s, etc.
“It was general victimisation and harassment, but the more worrying thing was the girl being told, ‘it’s not often we get to stop the boss’. I took this to be a reference to my having been OC of the IRA prisoners in Maghaberry. But, I would like to put it on record, I was the boss but not now. I am trying to get on with my life, and I don’t want this harassment.”
Mr Connolly confirmed that the girl in the car with him was searched by a female Police officer./ As far as I can see, this is political policing at its worst. Is it because I disagree with Sinn Fein.” The girl’s mother said her daughter was distressed and very upset when she came home: “She thought they were going to be arrested and even shot.”
Mr Connolly said he would have stopped had the Police put on their sirens, but never for flashing lights: “I told them many’s a man has been gunned down in those circumstances.”
Mr Connolly and his young passenger were each given a cope of their ‘Stop and Search’ form, on neither of which is a name recorded of the searching officer, just their number and rank. We asked the Police Press Office to explain why a vehicle not belonging to John Connolly was stopped, if it had been followed on its outward journey, and why the young girl as searched despite her personal details having been radioed through.
A PSNI spokesman replied: ‘While we do not comment on named individuals, we can confirm that as part of a proactive policing operation, officers stopped a number of cars in the Enniskillen area on Wednesday. During this operation, the occupants of vehicles were spoken to’. If anyone feels the actions of police officers were inappropriate, we would encourage that individual to come forward to allow the matter to be fully investigated.
It is always open to individuals to make a complaint to the Police Ombudsman’s Office.

Óglaigh na hÉireann Prisoners not involved in Portlaoise Row.

The IRPWA wish to state clearly that no Óglaigh na hÉireann prisoners (nor any interned on remand on membership charges) were involved in the recent row between INLA prisoners and prisoners associated with the Provisional Movement.
It is our understanding that prisoners associated with the INLA confronted prisoners associated with the Provisional movement over issues such as the Provisionals blocking INLA prisoners from coming on to a republican wing, throwing INLA prisoners of that wing for talking to other prisoners and trying to prevent the INLA prisoners from using certain visiting boxes, stating they were ‘IRA’ boxes.
Words were exchanged and by all accounts this led to blows being exchanged, we also believe that a small number of ex- Óglaigh na hÉireann prisoners sided with the Provisionals in this row.
Despite misinformation being peddled by a certain notorious Free State tabloid, it is clear that no Óglaigh na hÉireann prisoners were involved in this incident The E3 prisoners have worked hard to create a more tolerable environment for all POW’s incarcerated in Portlaoise and will continue to do so.

Republicans Must Stand With POW’s Families.

The 32 County Sovereignty Movement are urging ALL republicans to support the families of Republican POW’s and to stand with them in the face of an ongoing campaign of harassment and criminalisation by the Free State Gardai and Special Branch.

On Monday evening, the 15th September Orla and Ronan Connolly, the Brother and Sister of Republican POW Sean Connolly, were travelling in Dublin to a cash machine when they were pulled over by a Garda Squad car, when Ronan questioned the Garda as to why he was being pulled over they became aggressive and stated that they were going to charge him with being drunk and disorderly (not drunk driving). His sister Orla then told the Garda that she was going to phone a solicitor at which point she was struck across the chest with a baton and told she was going nowhere. At this point the Special Branch then arrived.

Orla and Ronan were then arrested for assault and being drunk and disorderly respectively and taken to a nearby police station. Both were then assaulted further with Orla receiving severe bruising to her upper body despite the fact that she has just given birth, a fact that those who assaulted her were well aware of.

Orla was taunted about an assault by the RUC/PSNI on her partner POW Gary Donnelly in which his arm was broken in 3 places and told the same was going to happen to her.

Ronan was released at 5am yesterday morning and despite being the victim of a serious assault, Orla was herself charged with assault and remained in custody until bail of 600 euro was posted.

It is clear to the 32 County Sovereignty Movement that this attack was pre planned in an effort to exert pressure on the Republican POW’s by victimising their families.

The policy of victimisation has taken many forms in recent months from refusing POW’s temporary release and compassionate parole for major family events such as births, deaths, communions and confirmations to the strip searching of newborn children in Portlaoise gaol.

The 32 County Sovereignty Movement are urging all republicans to join together in condemning these barbaric practices and to initiate a campaign to highlight the fact that the Free State administration, like everyone since the creation of the state, are still torturing Republicans and their families in order to defend the two illegal political entities in our nation.

Gardai Harrassment

Its with total disgust that Republicans find ourselves having to highlight another case of harrassment carried out by the Free State Special Branch.

On Monday night the partner of Gary Donnelly (Orla) who has just given birth in the last few weeks was followed and then visiously assaulted by the Garda and Special Branch, this sustained attack has left Orla with severe bruising to her neck and arms.
During this vicious assault a female Garda officer whilst raining down blows on Orla was constantly referring to her partner Gary, she kept threating to break Orla's arm just like the RUC/PSNI had done to Gary. This unprovoked attack must have been well planed in advance.
Yet to make an already bad situation worse the Garda went into their well rehearsed cover up mode by arresting and charging Orla with assault.
As the people of Dublin and Ireland know the framing of a suspect in this way is a daily occurence, it is the most crudest and disgusting abuse of the law and the puppet judges know this but to their shame do nothing.
Orla was then remanded in custody until the bail of 600 Euro was found.
The only reason Orla found herself in this position was everytime Gary went for bail to see his new born child, the bail conditions where so strict (a huge cash amount to be left with the court, not allowed into Donegal where visiting by Orla would be alot easier, having to report to Garda twice a day, therefore limiting his travel arrangements, not allowed to asscoiate with Republicans and more. If you are in any doubt check the court records.)
This is why we believe this was nothing more than an ambush, they knew in advance that Orla and Gary's new born child where travelling to Dublin on a visit.
This harrasment of visitors and Prisoners is unacceptable and must not be tolerated, this case and the case of an other prisoner who was refused compassionate parole when the mother of his two children died suddenly leaving them in total distress. Who would deny the Father a right to be with his son's in such times?
This is what Republican prisoners and the families are now facing, we must stand with them and show the Irish Government and their masters Britain that as before they will not be allowed to treat our families and prisoners like this.

A sustained campaign of harassment against a member of the 32 County Sovereignty Movement has taken a sinister and serious twist in Derry with agents of the British administration in Ireland deliberately putting his life in Danger.
On Wednesday 14^th August members of the RUC/PSNI waited outside his home until his partner left for work then kicked his door through and arrested him for a series of unpaid parking fines which the man was contesting. The man was minding his child at the time and no one else was available to do so, something the RUC/PSNI were obviously aware of when they waited until his partner left.
A neighbour then intervened and took the distressed child from the house.
The previous Monday 12the August, heavily armed RUC/PSNI members forced the door of his house when this mans eldest daughter was home alone and in the bath, they then proceeded to force open the bathroom door, to the obvious distress and embarrassment of this young girl.
Once arrested a member of the British security services, disguised as a RUC/PSNI man made an attempt to recruit the 32CSM member as an informer and placed £30,000 on the mans lap, telling him that was all they had in the safe at that time, they also told him that they would set him up in a bogus business as a cover for any payments they would make to him.
The 32CSM member refused to accept their offer at which stage the carrot turned into the stick and they MI5/Special Branch member became abusive and threatened to raid his parents home on a regular basis to cause distress and fear, the British security operative also threatened the mans partner and children and stated that they would do all they could to break up his family.
In another sinister twist the Branch man threatened to set him up with the gardai and mentioned the draconian legislation under which 4 Derry men are currently being held without evidence in Portlaoise.
The 32CSM member was then taken to Maghaberry prison and , because of his non cooperation with the British forces he was transferred the next day from a relatively safe area of the prison to the notorious Erin house which houses Loyalist criminals and drug dealers. The 32CSM member was palced on the same wing as the Shoukri brothers and other well known Loyalists and his cell door was left unlocked.
Our member became aware of a number of Loyalist prisoners walking by his door repeatedly and making a point of staring in at him. This caused our member to fear that these Loyalists had been informed that he was a Republican and he feared for his life.
The 32 County Sovereignty Movement deplore this campaign of harassment against this man, who is after all a member of a legal political movement, and we demand to know why the Prison Service is acting to punish this man for refusing to cooperate with the British police in Ireland.
Further to this we are seeking an immediate meeting with the Prison governor and are demanding that this man be transferred to a safe area of the prison for the duration of his term.
Our members will not be deflected from challenging Britain’s illegal claim to sovereignty in Ireland by threats or bribes nor will we cease to oppose the organs of the British state acting in such a concerted and political manner.

On Thursday the 31st of July two member of the Derry 32CSM were travelling to a local Cumann meeting when the car that they where travelling in was halted by heavily armed RUC/PSNI officers who pointed machine guns at their heads and ordered them to stand in the road with their hands in the air, in full view of the passing public.
The RUC then seized two cars and raided the homes of several members of the 32CSM who rely the cars to travel to work in what appeared to be a massive operation involving officers from outside the city. One of the members whose car had been seized immediately phoned his partner to alert her that the house was getting raided. His partner had been lured to Strand Rd RUC station under the false pretence that she was to voluntarily attend an identity parade concerning the murder of her friend Jean Quigley, whilst she was in an interview room a friend who accompanied her to the barracks was contacted in relation to the raid. The RUC refused to allow the friend to alert the Cumann member’s partner and held her against her will in the interview room.
As harassment continues the RUC have stepped to a new low, this chain of events was obviously a pre-planed operation and the use of the murder to lure people out of a house so that it could be searched unhindered is very concerning and exposes the true nature of the RUC/PSNI and where their priorities lie.
The 32CSM would like to thank the people Cornshell Fields who came out onto the streets in protest at the raid; this is the very same street in which Jean Quigley was murdered last week. We would call on our activists and supporters to stand firm against this latest wave of intimidation.

A member of the 32 County Sovereignty Movement has been the victim of an unprovoked assault by members of the Provisional IRA in a Derry bar on Sunday 27th July. The victim received serious head and facial injuries and the entire attack by the four man gang has been captured on the Bar’s CCTV system.
Verbal attacks against members of the 32CSM and their partners have been on the increase in the last number of weeks as has intimidation against new younger members.

These verbal and physical attacks are the work of a small but dangerous group of Provisional movement hangers on who seem intent on creating a civil war mentality between the Provisionals and members of the Republican movement. We ask the Provisionals to keep their members in check before the situation gets out of control and we would ask whose agenda this is and whose it serves?

Finally we would urge members of the 32CSM and the Republican movement to remain disciplined and not to fall into the trap that this group is attempting to set.

Republican separatism is on the rise in Derry and across the nation and we would urge our members not to react to what appears to be the last kicks of a wounded animal. It is our opinion that these attacks are occurring because these gangs know that for Republicans to seek retribution is counter productive.
The Republican project will not be dragged into the gutter by these people and we will stand firm behind the Republican position.

Republican POW’s will not be criminalised

The IRPWA are becoming increasingly concerned at recent events in Portlaoise gaol whereby attempts have been made by some within the Free State establishment to cause unnecessary friction between POW’s and the prison administration.

On Friday 25th July, shortly after lock up at 8pm seven members of the prison staff entered the cell of Derry republican Gary Donnelly and told him that they had been contacted by the gardai at 7.30pm and informed that he had a mobile phone and that they had been told to search the cell and strip search Gary. In turn the prison staff were told that they could search the cell but that he would be refusing to be strip searched. The prison staff relayed this message to the assistant governor who became highly agitated roaring through the radio to strip search Gary.

Gary Donnelly again refused and asked for his officer commanding who was duly sent for and arrived at Gary’s cell. The OC again informed the prison staff that they could search the cell but that as they had a metal detector they had no need to strip search Gary and that under no circumstances would it be tolerated. The prison staff searched the cell and needless to say found nothing.

The OC also demanded to see the assistant governor to whom he insisted that Republican POW’s and political prisoners would not be criminalised nor victimised. He also demanded a meeting with the Governor for the following day.

On Saturday 26th the Officer Commanding Republican POW’s on E3 and his adjutant met with the Governor and reiterated their position and also informed him that the Republican prisoners would be refusing to be locked up that day. The OC insisted that as political prisoners the men under his command would reuse to be treated like common criminals and told him if it was criminals he was looking for to search E1 where they were housed. The Republican prisoners then refused orders from the prison administration to lock up for head counts and stayed out of their cells until 9.30 that night.

The IRPWA are convinced that this political directive from the Free State elite is aimed at creating conflict within the prison by criminalising and victimising Republicans. It is undoubtedly intended to interrupt the organisation and smooth running of E3 wing that has no doubt caused concern among some. We are also extremely concerned at the attempts to victimise and target Gary Donnelly. In recent weeks the media have been attempting to link Gary to various things with which he has no connection whatsoever. The IRPWA also fear that as Gary is effectively being interned on a charge with no evidence that an attempt may be made to plant a mobile phone in his cell which is a criminal offence thereby bolstering their capability to hold him.

The IRPWA also are concerned at the increased incidents of petty harassment of visitors to the prison by prison staff, particularly female visitors. On a number of occasions females visitors have told of whistling and offensive remarks from both criminal prisoners and staff. In another incident visitors from Cork and Derry were refused entry at the front desk for not having photo ID, when a complaint was made to the governor he replied “ The fella on the desk must have been in bad form” clearly this is unacceptable.

The IRA POW’s and other political prisoners housed on E3 have worked hard to build a tolerable regime on that wing as befits their political status and they will not allow faceless figures from the Free State establishment, no doubt at the behest of their British allies, to create an atmosphere of conflict, friction and criminalisation. The IRPWA will support the prisoners in whatever action the deem necessary to undertake to protect themselves and their status.

At a well attended Protest over 2000 leaflets highlighting the internment of four Derry republican were handed out to the public. The protest attracted interest from passing tourist and the media was present. The 32 County Sovereignty Movement is calling for the release of four Derry republicans and other republican activists from across the 32 counties who remain interned by remand in Portlaoise Prison in the Free State. The men were arrested at a border filling station in March and have been held on remand ever since on IRA membership charges. Since then the Gardai has failed to produce any evidence, asking the court of three occasions for more time to produce the evidence. Surly in a free fair democratic state the evidence is produced to the PPS shortly after the person is charged. Gardai have charged, and interned these men and then sought to obtain the evidence, scraping the barrel for anything they can get their hands on in an obvious attempt to disrupt republicanism in Derry City. The Free State having been pressurized by the British are holding these men because of their republican position and their resistance to British Parliamentary activity in Ireland and the Mi5 controlled RUC/PSNI. The four men have been offered bail but at as a surety they have been asked to produce 90,000 Euro cash for the four of them. There have been cases in the past were republicans have lost their bail due to Gardai harassment and these working class men do not have 90,000 euro to put to risk. The Free State establishment now obtains the most draconian laws in Western Europe where men like Gary Donnelly, Mickey Gallagher, Paddy Mc Daid and Marty O’ Neill have been held for five months without any evidence being forwarded to the PPS. In the past few months establishment politicians in the North have indicated their support for these practices. Moreover, former republicans have openly called for such practices to be brought into the occupied six counties to quell the recent upsurge of republican activity.This is a human rights issue and we would ask for your support for these four men and their families and the countless other men from across the island who are being interned by remand in the 26 county state.

The revelations that the people of Derry City are to be petitioned in order to put pressure on Anti Agreement Republican Separatists to disband is disingenuous in the extreme and smacks not only of political opportunism but also no small measure of desperation.

It is clear that those behind this political stunt are using the understandable anger in the community at the murder of Emmet Sheils to further their own political objectives, namely an end to opposition to support for the RUC/PSNI and the British Administration in Stormont.

The 32 County Sovereignty Movement will not be deflected from our political work by such ill conceived political posturing nor will any other Anti Agreement Republican groupings.

Those who have sought to ferment community tensions by deliberately and falsely attributing blame for the murder of Emmet Sheils will be exposed for what they are as will their cynical use of his death for their own narrow agenda. Republicans will not be intimidated from upholding the Republican position and the 32 County Sovereignty Movement are resolute in our intention to continue our work in Derry City and across the nation.

The 32 County Sovereignty Movement are attracting disillusioned and disenfranchised Republicans right across Ireland and further a field as are other Republican organisations and the cynical manipulation of this tragic event illustrates how low Pro State Nationalists will go to undermine this growth, they will fail.

We note also the presence of the so called Deputy First Minister in Iraq. Just recently the same Minister greeted the US President to the Six Counties without a whimper of protest from him against the occupation and wholesale slaughter in that country. This reluctance to petition for protest against these blatant injustices is at least consistent with their equal reluctance to petition for protest against other high profile murders here because they do not afford him the same opportunity for cheap political kudos

The Irish Resistance Movement will not be forced to disband and anyone endeavouring to do so is not only naïve but is also acting in a dangerous manner. Attempts to foster a civil war mentality will also fail as all previous attempts have done.

The 32 County Sovereignty Movement welcome the result of Lisbon Treaty referendum and congratulate the people of the 26 counties for standing firm in the face of the implied threats and dire warnings emanating from within the yes camp.
We would also like to thank all our activists who successfully campaigned for a No vote and salute them for their dedicated and tireless activism.
This referendum has reintroduced a number of key concepts into political discourse in Ireland such as Democracy, Sovereignty, Independence and Neutrality, concepts that have not been to the forefront in Irish politics for some time.
It is ironic that many of those who campaigned for and voted NO on the grounds of the treaty’s democratic deficiency, erosion of sovereignty, impact on our independence and possible ramifications for neutrality have failed to apply the same political logic to the on-going occupation of the Six counties by an equally unaccountable external politic.
Just like the EU, The British government in not democratically accountable to any section of the Irish people , Irish sovereignty is violated by Britain’s illegal presence in our country, Irish independence is reduced from a right to an aspiration, actively opposed by both political elites in the nation and neutrality is an illusion, not alone because of US warplanes in Shannon but because of the permanent garrison of up to 5000 troops and over 10,000 heavily armed British police in the six counties.
The Irish people’s right to national self determination is not protected by the EU constitution, just as it is not protected or even recognised by both the 26 county and British administrations here.
The 32 County Sovereignty Movement fully expect that we have not heard the end of the EU constitution and we urge the Irish people to oppose any future attempts to foist this undemocratic treaty upon them having already rejected it.
We also urge unity among republicans to actively challenge all current and future attacks on our democracy, sovereignty and independence in line with our republican separatist principles.

Loyalist Parades Through Nationalist Areas with PSF’s Help

The revelation that PSF may get involved with the Loyalist Band Forum to police Loyalist Parades through Nationalist areas where they are not welcome comes as no surprise to the republican and nationalist base.

PSF have for some time been involved with Loyalists to ensure that at least one Loyalist parade will be allowed through Nationalist areas, areas where they are not wanted and where there is a history of mob riots emanating from those in the parades. Areas where residents and business people have asked why loyalists want to parade through their locality? The only logical explanation to answer such a question, is to raise sectarian tensions and to act in a triumphalist manner against the nationalist people. In other words the Nationalist people are to be treated as second class citizens, a trait familiar to former Stormont administrations, and it would now seem, to contemporary regimes also..

One such flashpoint is Castlederg in West Tyrone.

For over thirty years loyalist bands and supporters have created havoc in the Nationalist Ferguson Crescent and Killeter Road area of the town despite appeals from residents and business people to stop such sectarian parades.

In the past such parades were forced through assisted by British Police in Ireland, in more recent years when parades were prohibited from this area the security was such that no one could get in or out of the town until such parades were over and this usually lasted up to three hours and more.

The most recent exposure of PSF’s involvement occurred over the past number of weeks. Pro-PSF community leaders have held meetings with the people in the affected area and despite being asked at every meeting if there was any contact relating to a parade going through their areas, the answer was no.

Then at the last meeting attended by British MP Pat Doherty and local PSF Cllr C Mc Hugh it was outlined that during contact with loyalists and the parades people, it was agreed that a band parade to remember a UDR man would be permitted.
The people of the area were furious that PSF had undertaken to represent them in this way without consultation and without permission to speak on their behalf and they left the PSF MP in no doubt of their feelings and were they stood on this issue.
They see such a parade as sectarian and unnecessary to march through a Nationalist area.

Within days of the meeting PSF spin was that a parade was being forced through this area only for the representation of PSF MP Pat Doherty.

Such lies emanating from a party that once supported the beleaguered Nationalist communities from sectarian taunts and riots, to now being directly involved with such parades of hate, is indicative of just how deeply PSF have been absorbed into the partitioned statelet.

This feeble attempt by PSF to create the façade of normalization, a well worn policy of successive British Governments, will not fool anyone least of all the Nationalist people of Castlederg who have suffered greatly as a result of such sectarian parades.

More outrageous in this saga is the news emanating that in return for allowing this parade through Castlederg PSF would be allowed to police it.

Another attempt by PSF to uphold British rule at every opportunity at the expense of the Nationalist and Republican people, in return for nothing.

PSF have achieved nothing for the working class people in West Tyrone.

They have achieved no advantage in the struggle for Independence.

Rather they continue to deny fellow citizens the right to National Self-determination and they fail to uphold the Sovereignty of the Irish Nation, a cause for which the leaders of 1916 (The Provisional Government of Ireland) gave their lives when executed by the British Government.

The National Chairperson of the 32 County Sovereignty Movement, Francie Mackey, urges all Nationalist communities to be vigilant in light of these treacherous moves by PSF and states that never again should Nationalist areas have to suffer the indignation of such sectarian parades through their areas.

This was the trait of the previous Stormont when Nationalist skulls were cracked by British Police in Ireland to force such parades through and now we have the present Stormont attempting the exact same policy. What has changed?

Anti-republican elements seek to discredit Sovereignty Movement

It has come to the attention of the 32 County Sovereignty Movement in Derry city that a number of leaflets have been circulated in the area warning individuals, that the leaflet claims are drug dealers, that the 32CSM will take action against them. These leaflets are purporting to come from the 32 County Sovereignty Movement which is clearly not the case. Members of the 32CSM in the city believe that there is a dirty tricks element to this episode. The leaflet in question not only gets the name of the movement wrong but is littered with quite deliberate spelling mistakes and basic grammatical errors, this is clearly pre-empting a denial by ourselves, the sinister elements involved in distributing these leaflets can then claim that it is the work of an idiot with a grudge.

The 32 County Sovereignty Movement believe that this dirty tricks campaign is directly aimed at an initiative put forward by our activists in Derry to name and shame drug dealers and to pickets homes of known drug dealers and anti social elements if necessary. The leaflet finishes with a bizarre claim that should the recipient of this leaflet fail to mend their ways, then this case will be passed on to the 32CSM’s ‘Army Council’ in the city.

The 32CSM are convinced this is a deliberate attempt to undermine the republican separatist movement and to scupper any community initiatives we have planned. We are confident that the republican community will see through this pathetic attempt by elements loyal to Stormont to bring our movement into disrepute and we would urge anyone who receives leaflets or literature that they are not sure about to contact the 32 County Sovereignty Movement immediately.

On Friday 30th May, Republican prisoners on E3 wing, Portlaoise Gaol refused to lock up for a period of an hour in protest at the denial of the Minister of Justice to grant Temporary Release to two prisoners to attend their children’s first holy communion. The POW’s were joined in the protest by prisoners allegedly aligned to the Irish National Liberation Army on E4. The prisoners, Justin McCarthy from Dundalk and Shane Hickey from Cork, were denied TR without an explanation from the Ministry of Justice, this despite the fact that other prisoners, with different perceived affiliations have been granted TR for the same reasons recently.
The prisoners and the IRPWA are convinced that this denial of TR is based upon the perceived affiliations of the prisoners involved and is directly linked to attacks by the IRA in the six counties.
The Officer Commanding of E3 made it clear to the governor of Portlaoise that this was a protest against Dermot Ahern and not against the prison which he accepted.
The IRPWA condemn the Minister of Justice for his pathetic and petty minded attempts to punish Republican POW’s and their families and we salute the IRA and INLA prisoners for the principled stance they have taken in order to highlight this injustice.

South Down 32CSM urges Rathfriland nationalists to be vigilant.

Following reports in the Banbridge Leader on 13th May regarding a group calling itself the British Defence Organisation, the 32CSM urge nationalists in Rathfriland and surrounding areas to be vigilant in the coming days and weeks. This alleged group has stated it is armed and willing to tackle anti social behaviour in the town. While it is unlikely that such a group even exists there is the possibility that loyalist elements in the area may use the name to attack nationalists under the guise of tackling anti social behaviour. Rathfriland has become a much more mixed community in recent years and there are elements in the area who resent sharing this town with nationalist residents.
Anyone who comes under threat or has any information regarding this alleged grouping should contact the 32CSM in the area. There is little to be gained from going to the RUC/PSNI on this issue as nationalists in Rathfriland are only too well aware of the links between the state and local loyalists in a number of attacks in the area over the years.

Republicans are still being interned on remand

To be a republican today with a belief in ending British rule in the six counties and restoring national sovereignty and re-unification is a crime in the eyes of the 26-county administration. To campaign politically in pursuit of these aims is so great a crime that you could find yourself effectively interned and spending a considerable number of years in prison as a result.

At present they are a substantial number of people in prison on a ‘membership’ charge with no evidence to substantiate this but the opinion of a garda. This is nothing new for republicans for whom injustice is no stranger. Internment aimed at Republicans has been a regular occurrence throughout the history of the 26 county state. In the six counties, the British have not been as blatant to intern people openly, at present, for reasons of political expediency. Instead they have chosen the option of planting falsified evidence and attempted frame ups, fortunately, they have been exposed in quite a number of cases.

However, it seems that the British are preparing to copy the tactics of their Free State allies and evidence of an ever increasing campaign of criminalisation is the forbear to the introduction of the draconian measures already employed in the 26 counties.

That such measures are used by our enemies is no surprise, the Republican cause is used as a jackboot of British imperialism and their Free State lackeys. Unjust and repressive measures like these are necessary to keep such corrupt and undemocratic institutions like the Free State and the six county state-let in existence. Perhaps the most hypocritical aspect of this is that those who deploy these repressive measures masquerade as ‘republicans’ and every Easter are quick to seen paying homage to Pearse, Connolly and the martyrs of Easter week.

Martin McGuinness once proclaimed in a Free State court room that he was a member of the Derry Brigade and “very, very proud of it” and received a six-month jail sentence. At present there are Republicans who are serving six years for membership despite there being no evidence.

On Easter Sunday Martin McGuinness joined Bertie Ahern in Dublin to observe a free state military parade in his capacity as a Crown minister, no doubt to bolster the relationship between the Crown and the Free State. This should be an ominous warning to Republicans in the occupied territory that McGuinness and the rest of the British executive is ready to follow Bertie’s lead and introduce internment by remand. As McGuinness stood with Bertie watching the parade of the perpetrators of Ballyseedy and those responsible for the execution of Republicans, the Crown force which he gives allegiances to (RUC/PSNI) was in the streets of the Creggan harassing Republicans and intimidating nationalist children.

Nevertheless, Republicans should take heart that we still hold true to the ideals and aspirations of the Proclamation.

We have not besmirched the name of republicanism by such acts as allowing imperialist murderers to use our airports while on their way to slaughter innocent people, we have not dishonoured republicanism by being mired in corruption and sleaze, we’ve not tried to desecrate our national heritage by running a motorway thorough the Hill of Tara and by not selling our resources to greedy capitalist companies such as Shell. Yes, today in Ireland those in power see republicanism as a crime yet the sectarian drug dealing UDA are received by the President like old friends and Martin McGuinness rubs shoulders in Washington with war criminals like George Bush.

The 32CSM welcomes a former prominent member of Derry Sinn Fein to our ranks, Seamus Breslin, who has been a republican all his adult life and is well known for his dedicated community work in the Shantallow area. Sheamus spoke at the recent special Ard Fheis on policing in Dublin.
After over 40 years in the Provisional Movement Seamus became disillusioned with the current SF strategy and he believes that the leadership is leading the grassroots up the wrong path. Seamus is dedicating himself to fighting anti social behaviour, drug dealing and establishing a 32csm Cumann in the greater Shantallow area, he has also urged other true republicans to join him.

Firstly I would like to wish the four Derry men who are being interned in Portlaoise Gaol all the best of luck.

In a recent visit to Maghaberry Prison to see a republican prisoner my son was searched four times on entry, photographed five times and had his fingerprints taken before being able to see his friend. A sniffer dog was also called in and if this animal sits down beside you, your visit is terminated. These draconian practices only exist for republican visits.

Republican POWs are not criminals, but they are in the eyes of the occupation. Political status was signed away in the terms of the Good Friday agreement in 1998. This is not what Bobby Sands and his nine brave comrades died for. The Good Friday agreement has criminalized republicanism; recently in Derry City men arrested under the ‘terrorism’ act were shown a Bobby Sands book wrapped up in an evidence bag. By attempting to criminalize so called ‘dissidents’ Britain has criminated the entire republican family including the provisional grassroots. It recently became evident to me that the current Sinn Fein Strategy had been grossly underpinned by the Brits. Britain will never tolerate republicanism however it will tolerate those who subvert to its position.

After being a member of Sinn Fein my entire adult life, I decided to leave the party. It was not an easy decision for me to make. However, I felt that the provisional leadership was leading us up the wrong path. Irish republican history is littered with repealist come reformists. I spoke at the recent special Ard Fheis on policing last year, and from that day to this Sinn Fein is incapable of giving me an example of the accountability the grassroots had been promised. In recent weeks the RUC/PSNI have beaten the children of Creggan black and blue, humiliated children as young as eight by photographing them while noting their names to the outrage of their parents. The people of Derry had given the PSNI a chance and they have failed to live up to its promise of change. Policing boards have been exposed as a cosmetic propaganda exercise aimed at hoodwinking republicans into supporting the RUC. If only the RUC/PSNI tackled the current drug scourge that is destroying my Shantallow homeland with the same vigor and determination as they do with dignified republican commemorations’ then maybe they could gain a little trust. Drug dealing is a civic police issue however the RUC/PSNI only react to political issues related to republicanism.

Since leaving Sinn Fein with over 40 years behind me, I have recently joined the 32 County Sovereignty Movement and they have given me a very warm welcome. I would urge all disillusioned Shantallow republicans to contact me for advice; I can confirm that a new Cumann will be established in the greater Shantallow area very soon, we will be dedicated to upholding the republic while tackling anti social behavior and the drug scourge head on.

It is indeed a great honour and privilege to be invited here today, in Derry, to give the oration at this years commemoration of the 92nd anniversary of the Easter Rising.

This city and county has a long and proud history in the struggle for Irish Independence, a struggle to end British Parliamentary Activity in Ireland.

Today you the people of Derry are not only upholding the ideals of the leaders of 1916, you are remembering them with the pride and honour they deserve.

When the Proclamation was written it was done so with vision and spelt out clearly the legality of the Provisional Government.

The legality of that position in 1916 is as relevant to the Irish people today as it was then because Ireland today remains under British occupation.

The British Home Rule preference of that era remains the preferred choice of the present day British Government.

Unfortunately and sadly, former comrades have joined the ranks of the Home Rulers and have moved to the British agenda with the continuance of British Rule in Ireland and are now actively administering that rule.

This Easter those same people will besmirch the name republican as they use and abuse the proud name to bolster their own ego’s and to bolster their failed agenda.

In the 26 counties the people gave PSF their answer at the last election, when they decided there wasn’t room for two Fianna Fail’s.

PSF and Fianna Fail are two sides of the same coin and today both are competing for a share of the same things.

PSF have failed their own people and their Southern project is dead in the water. At their Ard Fheis it was acknowledged their Northern leadership failed the South because of their partitionist mindset.

I do not see the Southern project being resurrected as their policies are now in conflict between North and South and between the socialist left and the conservative right.

This begs the question, would James Connolly a signatory of the Proclamation have reached this position?

Would Padraig Pearse have entered negotiations that refused to address the core cause of conflict and accept the perpetuation of British Rule and continue to facilitate it with the public decommissioning of arms, end the struggle without any republican gains and criminalize Irish men and Irish women who continue to oppose British Rule in Ireland, who continue to oppose the partition of our country and who oppose the continuation of sectarian strife in the occupied six counties.

Today just like 92 years ago there is the ongoing effort to criminalize the republican position, criminalize and vilify us for putting forward the legality of our position and for stating clearly
just as Pearse did that Ireland unfree will never be at peace.

History has taught us there will always be opposition to the occupation of any part of the Irish Nation.

The criminalization I refer to takes many forms with vilification of individuals, the intimidation of our members and brutal beatings resulting in serious injury by the PSNI.

The PSNI in conjunction with MI5 are actively targeting individuals in a pattern just as they done under their former name the RUC and we believe they are deliberately setting up people for murder.

In the past weeks we are aware of suspicious activity across the 6 Counties emanating from the British military presence and we are certain that circumstances prevented the murder of at least one individual.

In the days and weeks ahead we appeal to the republican base in the occupied territory to be vigilant in the face of this serious threat and to report all suspicious activity to the 32 CSM, no matter how insignificant you think it is. It could save some one’s life.

Amazingly the quislings in Dublin and Stormont have not uttered a word of condemnation, instead their public pronouncements are that of continuing such practices and by giving their support to an unacceptable police force they are supporting such practices and supporting British political policing in Ireland.

Dublin have moved one step further in the criminalization process and the abuse of civil rights with the arrest of 4 men from this city and placed a charge without any evidence. Their powers to intern anyone on the advice of a Garda Superintendent demonstrates the fragility of their position. They feel the need to intern anyone who opposes British Rule in Ireland and have these abuses of human rights in place to remove any advancement to uphold Irish National Sovereignty.

Those who claim the PSNI are not involved in political policing are liars and are involved in the cover up to conceal the extent of their involvement in carrying out British practices in the occupied 6 Counties.

The Gardai have joined this bunch with political policing and there is little difference between their activities because their agenda is to crush any opposition and to facilitate the British Agenda under the guise of peace.

This very month the PSF leader in Leinster House, in response to Fine Gael criticism of the continued existence of the PIRA Army council, stated that the core reason for its existence was to act as a bulwark against the growing influence of so called dissident republicanism particularly in the border area. It now seems that a new slogan is required for them, ‘With an MI5 agent in one hand and a private militia in the other we’ll secure British rule in Ireland.’

We in the 32 CSM could never and will not accept such practices, that fails the Irish people, practices that fail to uphold the sovereignty of the Irish people and practices that allows a foreign government to maintain their illegal presence through the use of force, intimidation, threat and murder.

In our discussion document Dismantling Partition we recognize the strengths and weakness’ of the republican position following the damage that it has withstood when former leaders accepted the British agenda in the GFA. We are confident that the position we adopted prior to the GFA, with our challenge lodged in the UN, secured the basic tenet of the republican position and by so doing we have set out a course to pursue that challenge.

We recognize in the present climate we cannot do it alone and we recognize that by uniting the separatist position across the republican base republicanism will realign itself to the position of the 1916 leaders.

In doing so we are confident that together republicans will make a difference in upholding the Proclamation and in so doing uphold the right of the Irish people to National Self-determination. In other words uphold the Sovereignty of the Irish Nation.

The Republican Unity Initiative has the capabilities to promote debate, discussion and formulate republican strategy based on democratic principles, agreement and decision.

Republicanism divided into factions only assists those who are content to ignore us.

They refuse to challenge our analysis, our position leaves them uncomfortable so they have to retreat to ignore us in the hope we will go away.

That is not going to happen, we in the 32CSM know that with debate and understanding across the republican base, republicans will come together just as they done in 1916 and that with such unity the republican position cannot be ignored.

Who would have thought that as we prepare for the centenary of the1916 rising in 8 years time that we would be back at the same position as they were in the coming together of the differing organizations to present the true challenge based on truth and justice.

In 1916 their leaders came together to thwart the push for Home Rule and by doing so they lit the torch of freedom.

Their analysis in the Proclamation was correct.

They were vilified by the British and by the Home Rulers and because they set out with the right analysis, their position was ratified by the Irish people two short years later.

The people of Ireland elected them based on that analysis and they formed the first Dail Eireann. The Brits refused to accept the democratic will of the Irish people and executed our national
government because it was an Irish agenda and like today they refused to accept anything outside their own agenda.

Does that sound familiar in to day’s terms.

Over the past year republicans have come together with their first tentative steps in discussion and debate and have united with a number of projects such as the Wolfe Tone commemoration, the anti- British policing debate and in the Truth and Lies debate remembering the victims of Bloody Sunday in Derry.

We continue to extend the hand of friendship to all republican organizations and individuals to come together in debate and discussion so that the real challenge based on firm analysis can be pursued to end British parliamentary activity in Ireland.

That is what the men and women of 1916 gave their lives for and that is the only solution to end conflict and strife in Ireland.

As the realignment of the Home Rulers begins to crack and divide, republicans should be seeking to unite the republican position to promote the challenge and capitalize on the flaws of our opponent’s position.

Let us move forward from today with more tiny steps on the road to unity so that we can grow and look to 2016 with a shared confidence for the 100th Anniversary of a significant historic event.

An event that has left us in the position we find ourselves today by successive intransigent British Governments.

We have a serious and sincere challenge, let us develop it with a unified republican position.

Maltreatment of POWs Will Not Be Tolerated

PRESS RELEASE: 32 COUNTY SOVEREIGNTY MOVEMENT 26/03/2008 32 CSM warn ill treatment of republican POW's will not be tolerated. The 32 County Sovereignty Movement, the Irish Republican Prisoners Welfare Association and the wider republican family will not tolerate any further attacks on republican prisoners such as that carried out by the prison riot squad against republican remand prisoner Anton Craig. Anton, 23 from the Short Strand area of Belfast was returning from the canteen with his food when he was told to remove an Easter Lilly which the prison officer told him was a 'sectarian emblem'. As a republican Anton obviously refused and was then informed that he was on a charge and would face punishment for refusing an order. Anton proceeded to his cell where he staged a token protest by wrecking up certain items such as table, chairs and other furniture. At around 4.30-5.00 pm, eight members of the prison's riot squad entered Anton's cell and seriously assaulted him leaving him black and blue. They rammed his face into the cell floor asking him who ordered him to protest and calling him 'nothing but a provie bastard'. The riot squad also trashed the sink, toilet and electrics in his cell. As a consequence of the actions of the prison staff, Anton Craig has been sitting in a cell with out electric, washing facilities and a toilet that will not flush since Easter Sunday, there is nothing in his cell but a bed. A number of other prisoners were charged with wearing lilies and were charged, adjudicated on and sent to the punishment block the next day for 48 hours, all are back on the republican wing whereas Anton has yet to be adjudicated on and is facing up to seven days solitary confinement on top of the punishment he is already enduring. The republican movement urge all republicans to resist this criminalisation and to support republican prisoners in their battle for political status. The attitude of the prison staff against republicans is nothing but the attitude of the British to Irish republican separatists in microcosm. The republican base can no longer and will no longer endure attacks on republicanism either within the prisons or outside their walls.

Bugging Device Found

A sophisticated bugging and tracking device has been unearthed in the vehicle of a member of the Dublin 32 County Sovereignty Movement. The device was secreted internally into the dashboard of the vehicle and was equipped with its own self contained power supply. The manner by which the device was installed strongly suggests that those who planted it took considerable time to effect this and was obviously professionally done. The device bears English Manufacturing Labels but as of yet it is uncertain whether it originates from a British, Irish or joint British/Irish intelligence source. Suffice to say that the unearthing of yet another intelligence gathering device clearly illustrates that the war against those who articulate the right of the Irish people to National Sovereignty continues in government(s)circles. The individual 32CSM member involved has sought legal advice on the matter. The 32CSM reiterates our call for all republicans to be diligent in the face of these insidious attempts to undermine the republican struggle. British Parliamentary activity in Ireland takes many forms.

The state of medical attention is sub standard with delays of days to see a doctor and months to see a dentist. This situation is intolerable and we will not wait for the death of another comrade before we act.

I am writing with grave concerns for the health and welfare of Aidan Hulme, a Republican political prisoner at Portlaoise Prison.

Since being repatriated to Portlaoise in 2006, Aidan has continued to suffer great pain from injuries sustained over six years ago before being interned in Britain. It was his great hope, as mine, that his repatriation to Ireland would finally result in the proper medical care he so badly needs.

Aidan Hulme desperately needs surgery, not more pills. Currently he is taking 23 tablets for pain per day. He has made numerous complaints and requests for surgical attention to the Portlaoise prison governor and to the medical officer, but has only received more pain pills in response.

You will recall, as I do, the 2001 death of another Republican prisoner, Kevin Murray, who had also made numerous complaints and requests for medical attention. Like Aidan, all that Kevin Murray received from Portlaoise doctors were tablets. When the massive brain tumor was
finally discovered, it was far too late to operate, and Kevin was released to hospice to die.

Please allow Aidan Hulme the simple operation that he requires. Under international Human Rights laws including the Geneva Convention for the Treatment of Prisoners of War; the European Convention for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment; and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights; Aidan Hulme is entitled to the same comforts of any Irish citizen while in your care.

Nationalist parties give go ahead for British police offensive

The 32 County Sovereignty Movement views with deep anger this weeks dramatic upsurge in offensive operations by the British police directed at nationalist districts across the 6 occupied counties. It is clear to us the swamping of working class nationalist housing estates, roads and rural districts in south Armagh, Newry and Derry city since Saturday evening accompanied by low flying helicopters, aggressive searching, patrolling and surveillance by heavily armed British policemen is a direct result of the public statement in the week prior to Christmas by Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness and SDLP leader Mark Durkan. These constitutional nationalist political leaders openly criticised the PSNI for failing to arrest and jail republican activists in sufficient numbers, giving the British the green light to pursue its aggressive armed incursions within our communities.

This disgraceful public statement was accompanied by an unprecedented and prolonged campaign of propaganda emanating from the constitutional nationalist media, politicians and British intelligence services seeking to demonise and criminalise republican activists. The nationalist political establishment at Stormont have clearly signalled to the British their support and compliance for offensive operations within republican heartlands. The responsibility for the British forces activities in our districts this week lies as surely with them as it does in MI5's Holywood base.

These counter insurgent operations from Derry to Newry are also clearly not directed at any one group in particular but against working class nationalist and republican communities in general as a show of strength by the British police encouraged and openly egged on by nationalist political leaders. No republican can give their support to this activity by the British forces in Ireland, a foreign occupying force showing its true counter insurgent colours and hostility to traditionally republican working class communities. The PSNIs role is the RUC's and RIC's role - Defence of the Realm and the suppression and criminalisation of all opposition to British state institutions in Ireland. That is the purpose of their invasion of our districts in the last 4 days

We are also mindful that the response of your youth to this armed offensive against their districts by the British police has, as always, not been found wanting. The 32CSM recognise and salute their ongoing resistance to the British forces this week and regard any calls by local politicians for their neighbours to inform on them to the British as utterly despicable. Our youth are our future and their instinctive response to these armed incursions by the British into their districts is a source of pride to many.

We take this opportunity again to make it clear that the republican struggle for national sovereignty will neither be criminalised nor defeated by the British state and its hangers on within the constitutional nationalist political leadership class. The PSNI are a force of British occupation in our country and its is they who are the criminals, not those republicans who oppose their illegal presence and the crime of partition in Ireland. Finally we express our solidarity with those who have been arrested and call on all republicans regardless of party allegiance to stand side by side in comradeship against these attempts to criminalise and subdue not only our struggle but the very communities from which we draw our strength, solidarity and support.
